The crankshaft position sensor on a 2012 AudiA4 is located on the driver's side of the engine, behind the air inlet hose, just in front of the transmission. It is in a pretty awkward location to get at but You can remove it using a T30 torque socket with a swivel extension and ratchet. Pull the tab on the electrical connector and unplug it from the back of the sensor. Now, remove the torque screw holding the sensor to the block turn it counterclockwise to remove it. You may have to wiggle the sensor a bit in order to free it from its slot. When installing the new one, tighten the screw up just until it is snug. Do not overtighten it because You could break the sensor.
The sensor is located on the block just behind the oil filter.
