The 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 uses up to 4 quarts of transmission fluid in its reservoir. This make and model needs ATF 4, also known as Dexron ViAutomatic transmission fluid. You will be able to find this fluid easily in one quart bottles, at many major retailers. You can also get it from any automotive parts and accessories location, or online if You happen to have a website or seller You trust explicitly. You can expect to pay between $2 and $24 per bottle, and You will need a MINImum of three. If You choose to have the fluid changed by a mechanic or automotive technician, You will need to pay an additional $50 to $150 for labor.

My 2012 Ram 1500 ST 4.7 took 10 quarts after a filter fluid change. I let the transmission drain over-night. Due to spillage when removing the pan, I could not measure how much came out.
