The 2016 Chevy Trax operates with a fuel filter or "screen" that's installed in the fuel pump and gas tank and it's considered a non-serviceable part. The screen is designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle. However, due to lack of care or exposure to debris, permanent filters can become clogged, faulty and impair driving. The repair is costly because the entire gas tank must be dropped to access the pump and replace the filter. To prolong the fuel screen's life, change synthetic oil at recommended intervals, every 7,500-10,000 miles or 12 months. Use the correct octane in the gas tank (regular, unleaded 87 octane) and schedule routine checkups that include emissions inspections. Regular maintenance will help preserve the Trax' long-term reliability.
