There are two different types of speed sensors in the 2015 Nissan Altima. One is the transmission speed sensor. This is located on the tail shaft of the transmission and monitors the speed of the transmission shaft. The center sends a signal to the computer depending on the speed of the shaft and well either shift the gears up or down. The other type of speed sensor is a wheel speed sensor, this is part of the abse system. This sensor's job is to monitor the speed of the wheel the computer looks at all the information from each of the wheels and if it notices that one of the wheels are spinning faster or slower than the others it will adjust the speed to stop the wheel from losing traction.

The speed sensor on the 2015 nissan altima is located on the right rear of the transmission near the tail shaft, under the hood of the vehicle.

There are three speed sensors on the the transmission. The input speed sensor, the output speed sensor, and the vehicle speed sensor. The transmission controller (TCM), the ABS (anti-lock brake system) module, the PCM (computer or powertrain control module) all use these signals to do their job. The vehicle speed sensor is located below the air box near the left axle and is mounted right next to it to measure the final output speed and the speed of the vehicle. It tells the instrument panel the vehicle speed. The input speed sensor is behind the starter as it is measuring the speed of the input shaft from the engine into the torque converter. The secondary speed sensor is located on the front of the casing, which is the left side of the engine, facing the front of the vehicle directly above the transmission pan, to the right of the dip stick tube for the transmission. This measures the output speed of the torque converter and the input speed to the Continuously variable transmission (CVT) in order to calculate when to commit to torque converter clutch lock up, and CVT input/output ratio. In the scan tool they are labeled as input speed sensor, secondary speed sensor or output speed sensor, and primary speed sensor. Different tools will show different things. The OSS is the crankshaft speed, so the OSS is your RPM signal and your crank position sensor (CKP). Your computer has several back-up rpm signals such as the camshaft position sensor (CMP). I would post pictures if I could. If you look one bay at a CVT transmission, there are clearly three sensors visible on the transmission. The are all exactly the same sensor with three pins, but in different locations. Whenever a CVTis changed.the technicians always plug the two sensors by the firewall (the VSS and ISS) in backwards, and it sets codes and puts the vehicle into limp mode.
