On a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, You'll find the starter on top of the oil pan, near the oil filter. If You're looking to replace it for whatever reason, make sure You always disconnect the battery before performing any starter service -- You run a significant risk of electrical shock when working with the starter or any electrical or ignition component. It's better to be safe in this regard than sorry. You can expect a '16 Malibu's replacement starter to cost between $200 and $280 from most major automotive part stores. A replacement through a mechanic can run You from $350 to $530, so You'll save quite a bit if You do it Yourself. A total swap is not terribly difficult, and You can easily locate the starter by looking for a horizontal silver cylinder. If it's been replaced before, the starter may instead be black.
