The 2016 Mazda CX5 license plate screw size is an M6. This is a metric size and lets You know that they are A6mm thread pitch. Usually You will need a screw that is about 1/2 of an inch in length to secure Your plate. If You have a plate frame or other decorative accessories on Your plate You may need a longer screw. I recommend always using a thread locker on Your license plate screws to help prevent Your plate from coming loose while driving. Thread glue can also be beneficial because it can prevent theft of Your plate. You could also use a less common screw head like a Torx to help protect Your plate.

Original bolts are nylon with slotted head. 6 mm x 1.0 pitch x 3/4” long. They screw into steel welded nut. I had to drill nylon out after screws twisted off and chase with a 6 mm tap to clean steel threads on nut. I will put neverseez on either SS bolt or nylon bolt to alleviate any future problems.
