The 2017 GMC Canyon oil filter will be mounted on the passenger side of the engine block in the back. It will be below the intake system and next to the alternator, and You will be able to access it from the top of the engine bay. Make sure if You are replacing oil that You also replace the oil filter as well which costs about $10 - $20 depending on the brand and quality. When tightening the drain plug make sure not not overtighten it or strip as it will cause an oil leak, the recommended torque iS30 ft/lbs. When changing the oil, You can use traditional or synthetic oil, but remember that conventional is not an efficient engine lubricant relative to synthetic, and it will need to be replaced more often.
