The 2018 Chevy DuRamax employs a diesel engine equipped with 7.5 liters of DEF or diesel exhaust fluid in a separate reservoir separate from the gas tank. DEF is used to reduce harmful emissions and is injected into the upstream of a truck and eventually through the SCR catalyst where the chemical composition of the exhaust is reducted to nitrogen and water. The "NOX" or nitrogen of the diesel fuel is reformulated through the addition of DEF into less harmful substances. The Chevy DuRamax can be topped up or filled with fluid by raising the hood and locating the reservoir on the passenger side of the engine bay. It is identified by a blue cap in almost all vehicles.
