The 2018 Chevy Volt recommended oil is SAE 5w30 synthetic motor oil. It is recommended to change Your oil every 7,500 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. You can extend Your engine life, get better gas mileage, and have better performance if You change Your oil regularly. Routine oil and filter changes help remove particles and sludge from the engine. If the oil isn't changed, Your vehicle's engine will start to have a lot of problems.Over time the oil will become thinner, abrasive, and will start to wear down on vital engine parts. Synthetic oil is by far better for performance. It protects the engine due to lower levels of friction.

Use what you cap on the engine says to do not change your oil in a volt just because 7500 miles happens. We both know you can drive 7500 miles and other than maintenance mode the engine wont even run.
