Yikes! If You've got a P0700 on Your Chrysler PT Cruiser, it's Your engine control unit (ECU) throwing a Transmission Control System Malfunction error. Your transmission's somewhat important to Your driving experience! The transmission control module monitors the automatic transmission for faults and relays this information to the ECU. If the TCM detects that there's an issue, it flags it to the ECU, which throws a P0700. Typically, You should find that there was another code thrown as well, which will help You narrow down the issue. In general, this could be that the TCM itself is faulty, or that You just need to do a flush of Your transmission fluid, as there may be excessive metal built up within it. (Metal flakes in the transmission fluid can trigger this). A failing transmission isn't a joke: take this into the shop ASAP!

P0700 Chrysler Overview The Transaxle Control Module (TCM) controls the failure of transaxle control sensors and actuators. ... The ECM stores the P0700 code, which means that the TCM has detected a transaxle control malfunction.
