The Dodge Ram 1500 P0406 error code is for Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit High. This is a generic code used across all cars from 1996 and on for the powertrain. If the EGR sensor has unusually high readings for a significant amount of time, it might set this code off. Some of the matching symptoms for this code include surges while driving, random stalling, the malfunction indicator lamp warning light coming on, or increased combustion temperatures. There are various things that might cause this, some of them being a bad EGR, having debris caught in the valve and possibly holding it either open or closed, shorts to circuits, or open circuits. You can attempt to fix the issue by unplugging the EGR valve and restarting it. If that doesnt help, try to remove it and look for any debris. If You see some, clean it and reinstall. If the simple checks/fixes dont work, You may want to consider takeng the truck into the dealership.
