The 2020 Ram 1500 lasts around 250,000 miles with some relatively minor touchscreen and spark plug issues reported. At $32,990 to $58,499, it’s a decent value for a large truck with a luxurious cabin.

Passenger room is fantastic, the suspension is very smooth and the touchscreen is larger than other trucks.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The base models don’t have many safety features, repair costs get higher as it ages and the towing capacity is lower than some competitors.

Ram 1500 - best truck I have owned.
Rides smooth, a lot of room inside, engine has great pickup when needed, adjustable brake and gas pedal are awesome, seats are very comfortable and easy to operate, awesome storage bins in the floorboard in the backseat, has the hemi engine, and gas mileage is decent.

Best truck out of the pack.
Car is great. I had a competing brand of truck prior and the fit finish and design details are light years ahead. Even the most basic trim is nicer than some luxury cars. Only issue I ever had is trying to find competent support for infotainment troubleshooting.

2020 ram rebel is a must buy.
The technology features and the court of the new ram trucks is fantastic. The interior is spacious enough for my family including two dogs and 1 year old. The 12 inch touch screen and Bluetooth capabilities are great to have with kids as I can quickly put on her music. The rebel style package is a really good look and can't wait to use the off road capabilities that come with it.

Great truck well worth the investment.
It is a really nice truck with some very good features. It has a 5.7 liter v8 hemi engine pushing 395 horsepower. It has a 392 rear end allowing it to tow over 10500 pounds which is perfect for my family and our camper. The only downfall was that it didn't come with a remote starter.

Powerful engine with quiet sound.
I like the engine and transmission, the entertainment system, tow package, and gas per mile. Seats are comfortable. It has a 6 1/4 foot bed that can carry a lot of items. I love quiet hemi engine sound. The only thing I do not like is the key fob which has no remote start feature.

Everything about the truck is amazing! I don't have a single complaint about it.
No problems whatsoever. Best truck I have owned hands down. Will not switch to anything ever again. The screen size, 4x4, blackout, is just about everything you need in a vehicle. Apple car play with the stereo blaring is also a plus. Spacious room in the back and a hidden compartment cooler.

Uncommon set of options that may require direct factory order.
I purchased the eco-diesel option which is just as powerful as hemi 5.7 v8 with about 50% improved mileage. I also chose the RamBox option for increased lockable storage space. Did have to replace a hose line for def fluid two months after purchase. No other issues so far.

My 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel Nightmare
After driving a 2001 Ford Excursion for 17 years I decided to treat myself to a new truck. I previously owned a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 and loved it. I considered Ford, Chevy, and Ram, but ultimately purchased a 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel 12/19. Within two weeks of driving noticed that water was leaking into the cab. Carpet extremely wet under driver side floor mat. Terrible odor of mildew as a result. Ultimately determined to be a leak in the A pillar. After months of battling with the dealership and Chrysler, Chrysler purchased it back under the lemon law. I was allowed MSRP towards MSRP on another vehicle. Ordered another 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel. It now has 15k miles on it. Horn has gone out and right/front fender well liner has come loose. Never had it off road. These may seem like minor issues but very annoying considering problems with the first one. NEVER AGAIN. Should have bought a Ford. My son is still driving my 2001 Excursion.

Ram Never Again
Absolutely not! 3800 miles. Backup camera works occasionally. Display and radio do not turn off after vehicle is turned off and locked. Very good if you like a dead battery the following morning. Tail lights do not work when headlight switch placed in "auto". Headlights switch from high beam to low beam randomly and usually at the wrong time. Switching back to a Ford F150 after 3800 miles

Horrific seat design causes pain!!
The new seat design causes leg and hip pain, making the truck undriveable. It is extremely unfortunate that this design was approved by Ram without better testing. People are beginning to have pain from these seats and only now starting to realize that the cause is their truck seat. It is a major concern that Ram needs to address ASAP !!

My 5.7 Ram has had a drive train vibration since day 2. I feel it in the steering, seat and gas pedal. It occurs about 60-75% of the time. It will vibrate at any random time and other times not at all. It does does not seem to be affected by engine or outside temperature, road conditions, weather conditions or fuel grades.

What Do Critics Say About the Ram 1500?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Ram 1500 series offers more room than other full size trucks with good owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Ram 1500 at 3.6/5, praising the strong diesel engine, but doesn’t like the lack of safety tech on entry-level models.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Ram 1500 a 4.4/5, enjoying the very smooth air suspension, but owners don’t like the lower towing capacity than other large trucks.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Ram 1500 Have?

Common problems found on the 2020 Ram 1500 include the touchscreen freezing, the engine lagging on acceleration, along with the key fob dying quickly. Overall, these problems are similar to other full-size trucks, leading to average repair costs as the Ram 1500 ages.

The touchscreen freezing is the most widespread complaint from Ram 1500 series owners in the first 5,000 miles. There are software updates for the Uconnect system which improves its reliability. Most dealerships will install the updates for free, while some charge around $50.

The engine lagging on acceleration is another issue reported on Ram 1500 trucks at around 10,000 miles. Often the problem is caused by excessive carbon buildup on the spark plugs. Removing and cleaning the spark plugs fixes the issue most of the time, costing around $100.

The key fob dying quickly also shows up on some Ram 1500 models in the first 20,000 miles. There is a small coin-style battery used in the key fob and some of them simply wear out fast. Replacing the battery costs around $3 and is something you can do at home by separating the two halves of the key fob.

There are 11 recalls on the 2020 Ram 1500, which is more than other full size trucks from the same year. The most serious recall covers a high pressure fuel pump failure which can cause the engine to stall. Dodge will replace the fuel pump in affected models for free. Other recalls include air bags, the windshield wipers, along with the tailgate opening while driving.

How Long Will the 2020 Ram 1500 Last?

A well-maintained 2020 Ram 1500 can last around 250,000 miles, which is over 50,000 less than the long-lasting Toyota Tundra. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other large trucks according to data provided by Repair Pal at $641 per year.

As a used 2020 Ram 1500 series reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the brake master cylinder for $380, a park assist camera costing $640, along with the water pump which costs $950.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is okay on base models with a standard 5-inch touchscreen display. Optional upgrades include larger 8.4-inch and 12-inch touchscreens, along with more powerful stereo systems.

Standard safety technology is basic, only offering a rearview camera.

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Hands-free parking assist
  • Lane departure warning with lane keep assist
  • Forward automatic emergency braking
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Surround-view parking camera system
  • Blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert
  • Forward collision warning
  • Adaptive cruise control

Is the 2020 Ram 1500 a Good Value?

Yes, the 2020 Ram 1500 is a good value since it’s cheaper than some other full size trucks while still having a lot of capabilities. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $32,990 to $58,499, making it less than a Ford F-150 or Chevy Silverado. When new, the price range was $32,145 to $57,515. In current market conditions the Ram 1500 doesn’t really depreciate, although in normal times we expect it to lose about 5% of its current value per year.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The fifth generation of the Ram 1500 came out for the 2019 model year.

2015: New R/T model introduced with a sportier driving experience.

2016: Additional exterior color choices offered along with an upgraded center console.

2017: Both the six-speed automatic transmission and Outdoorsman models were discontinued.

2018: Updated 8.4-inch touchscreen stereo system, standard rearview camera across the lineup, Tungsten model launched.

2019: Fully redesigned for the fifth generation with new engines, exterior styling, interiors, along with a higher towing capacity.

2020: New optional 3.0L EcoDiesel engine offered, Night Edition package added.

2021: High-performance TRX model introduced, optional head-up display added.

How Does the Ram 1500 Compare to the Competition?

The 2020 Ram 1500 is a nice full size truck, although you do trade some of the long-term reliability ratings for a nicer interior and a smoother ride.

The Ford F-150 is another large truck which is available for around $3,000 more. Off-road performance is better on the Ford F-150 models, while the Ram 1500 offers a nicer interior for the money. We recommend the Ford F-150 since they last longer, although both are decent trucks for the 2020 model year.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 is a popular competitor offered in the same price range. Towing performance is a little better in the Chevy Silverado, while the Ram 1500 series offers a larger touchscreen. We recommend the Chevy Silverado, although both are very similar regarding overall quality, making it worth testing both to see which you prefer.

I bought this truck to haul a travel trailer. It is a light duty truck but has plenty of power to haul my 33 foot trailer. I barely even notice that I am pulling anything, besides the fact that I can see it in the mirrors. While owning the 2020 ram 1500 tradesman, I have only had a good experience so far. The ride quality is the best I have ever had when it comes to a truck. Even though its a quad cab there is tons of storage and a big bed. Also looks absolutely amazing with the new body style. Also the truck is great on gas! I average about 16 to 18 in the city and about 21 on the Hwy taking long trips. One downfall is the smaller 5 inch screen, which doesn't have apple CarPlay. But on the bright side ram is easy to upgrade and I can easily buy the 8 inch screen or even the 12 inch screen! And it has the 5.7l hemi which will tow anything you need it to tow. Gears Downshifting without Reason . . . Will not Shift out of Gear - RAM NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE??? Plus more Quirks!
I own a 2020 Laramie 1500, purchased brand new at the beginning of the year. It continues to downshift without any notice and not come out of the gear even with an increase press on the accelerator. It happened 3-5 times the first few months at low speeds and usually after towing. I brought it to the shop and mentioned however they could not get it to replicate my situation and said it was operating fine. I was in San Diego this weekend on Vacation and merging into a highly congested freeway going 70 miles an hour and the truck down shifted to under 60, and I couldn't get it to increase speed. Fortunately the truck behind me responded quickly and didn't hit me. I was able to get off the road and the truck would not switch to a higher gear until truck was parked and re-started. Something is not right . . . And "Can't get it to duplicate" from the dealership is not an acceptable response. I was able to get a passenger to video tape the situation so hoping this time RAM will take me seriously and get this fixed. Additionally hearing a gurgling from the engine which was not present on any of the test drives or first few months of driving, additionally also mentioned to RAM and they "Couldn't get it to duplicate". I also have gone through 2 brand new phone charges, and convinced the USB is loose in the main large screen system, vs randomly getting two bad chargers. P. S. The chargers are from Verizon . . . Expensive . . . And work just fine in my Honda Accord.

Overview of the 2020 ram truck.
The ram trucks are a very a good truck and it's so smooth. There is so much room in the cabin and so many charging ports to charge your devices. Everything in and out of the vehicle is amazing. I got the night edition which is all black and it looks so clean especially at night. I highly recommend this truck to buyers that want a new truck or is looking for a new better truck to rely on.

Definitely getting the best bang for my buck.
Could be better on gas mileage, and it takes a bit longer for the heater to turn on. But otherwise a awesome truck. I do wish that I got it with a bigger truck bed. Unlike my last vehicle. I wish it had sensors around front and rear bumpers so that you have an idea as to where your surroundings are.

Most luxurious truck I have owned.
Love air conditioned seats. Middle consul is huge. Super roomy cabin. Drives so smooth. Moon roof is incredible. 12' is beautiful. Sound system works perfect one downside. When the rear window is open the bass makes the window shake and make noise. Tows my travel trailer with easy.

Nice powerful engine but way too quiet.
I need to upgrade the exhaust. It is too quiet for such a powerful engine. I hate how this truck revs up really high at every start up. When I start the vehicle and drive it sounds like I am flooring the gas pedal when in reality I am feathering the throttle.

Terrible dust problem, I would not recommend this as a work truck.

The rebel.. Missing some basic upgrades.
I wish it came with line ex in the bed and running boards. For how much you pay for this model it is disappointing this is not included. Overall it runs great, I absolutely love the interior. Pulls my horse trailer very well! I have found that when I am in reverse there seems to be an issue with the camera where it throws the truck into stop even though nothing is behind it.

2020 ram 1500 summary review.
The ram 1500 big horn is the perfect truck. The crew cab is spacious, the interior is clean and convenient for the driver and the passengers, the ride is smooth yet feels like a high performance truck. The seat and steering wheel are heated, the screen display is intuitive and large, and pairing with a smartphone makes the driving experience safe and smooth.

Ram 1500 night edition. Dark color scheme with hide away running boards.
Large comfortable smooth ride. Easy to use entertainment system. Huge back seat. Heated seat and steering wheel. Night edition trim gives a sporty look. Hideaway running boards are easy and convenient. Car looks rich. Very quiet ride. Touch screen is big. Overall best vehicle I have ever owned.

Great truck, wish it could get better mpg while towing in windy climates.
Towing a 5,000 pound trailer through open roads with 20 mph winds I was getting 5mpg.. I imagined my mpg would never be that bad. Other than that the truck is great, in the city I get an average of 15mpg. Our first snowfall hit yesterday and the 4x4 was decent.. I slide a little more than I would like but I think that is due to the lower profile tires that I do not like.

Luxury look in a trendy truck.
I love the sleek look and trim package of the inside and love the way it looks on the outside too. The detail on the inside is my favorite, especially the two tones. It rides nice and quiet and gets great gas mileage for a truck, I average about 20 mpg in a rural area (I have a 30-60 mile drive to work depending on the day). There are enough bells and whistles to be helpful and not too many that are confusing.

Ram 1500 big horn with highest rated towing package.
Very reliable, however, have has one recall to take care of with the dealer. The hemi engine and 8 speed automatic transmission are great. The towing and payload capacity with optional towing package make towing up to 12,000 lbs. A breeze. I would definitely purchase again.

Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn 12 inch screen
I purchase my Longhorn Ram 1500 yr2020. The truck is a Beauty but I'm Having problems after two months. The Truck will Vibrate at Random, truck dropped to 20mph would not switch gears, so scary! My truck also leaks some type of black dust, looks horrible on both Sides. I Will be taking it to the dealer tomorrow I hope they can solve the issues.

About my vehicle and the great qualities.
This vehicle is very good for people who like trucks and it rides good. It also is very comfortable you can design it how you want it as well. You can also add rims and a pipe for sound and it also has a great music system. It has a great navigation and camera system and there is a lot a great things that comes along with it.

A ram does not disappoint!
I have had no problems out of my new ram bighorn 1500 crew cab. It is spacious, rides smooth, and has plenty of power with the 5.7 hemi motor! It has a large touch-screen display for the radio controls, plenty of USB ports for charging devices, comfortable and fully adjustable driver’s seat, enough room for 5 people to ride comfortably, and it is a gorgeous ride! It also has a tow-package and remote start, which are both nice features that I enjoy having.

Black beauty with impeccable quality.
I have had my vehicle for 10 months now and have had no problems with it. I did have a recall on the windshield wipers but they were fixed immediately by the dealership. This is one of the most comfortable vehicles I have ever driven. The ride is very smooth and the noise reduction is amazing. I love the digital screen features and all of the security features this vehicle offers. Surprisingly the gas mileage is much better than I thought it would be with it being a v8. I plan to purchase another one down the road.

Love the spaciousness of my ram.
No problems. 21+ mph, expansive 2nd seat area, rides great, steering wheel satellite radio controls, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, comfortable seats. I like the controls that indicate, gas mileage, tire air pressure and other features. I also like the dial to change from park to drive and reverse. Love electronic emergency brake.

2020 ram 1500 EcoDiesel limited.
Averaging 28 mpg with the EcoDiesel engine. Has a ton of storage space with hidden compartments, a huge center console and cup holders all over. The ride is on par with a luxury car. This truly is a luxury truck. There was a so much space in the back seats they recline and if you fold the bottom cushions up you can fit a lot of cargo inside. The towing capacity is great especially with the extra torque of the EcoDiesel.

The perfect off-road truck!
Love my 2020 ram rebel! Its comfortable, smooth on the road, but perfectly capable off road truck. The interior is beautiful the exterior is nice with bright daytime running and led lights. The power 5.7 hemi is a very powerful engine that is perfect for everything you need it for. I would purchase another ram in the future!

Spacious 2020 ram 1500 doesn't give me any problems, rides well.
I recently purchased this vehicle 1 week ago. So far so good. No issues, no problems. It is huge. I have the quad 4x4. The back doors are smaller but perfect because. T husband and I have 2 small children. The truck bed is 6'4. A lot of space. There are sensors all around the truck which helps when there is something short in front of me that I cannot see.

Aggressive looking truck.
My ram is very nice. It has a very smooth ride and a nice looking interior. The uconnect does not seem to work right all the time. I used to be able to say 'call wife' and it would. Now it says it does not have phone book, so that is a problem for me. All the buttons and controls are pretty easily accessible from the driver's seat. There does seem to be some odd clicking noises every once in a while when turning the shift knob.

Ram overview of interior and exterior features.
Ram has excellent features. Especially love the additional space and flat floor in the back seat. Truck rides very smooth and has good power. Interior is comfortable and easy to keep clean. Looks of the 2020 models are exceptional. There’s nothing I would change about the vehicle and nothing it is missing.

Love it and recommend it!
Love this truck. The longhorn package is amazing. Towing is great for our airstream. We live all the leather, the massive sunroof and the large display. Cooked seats front and back. Great power and luxury combination I would recommend to anyone looking for a new truck.
