The Ford F-150 axle code denotes which type of axle Your truck is fitted with. It's useful information to have for repairs, or just for peace of mind. In Your case, an H9 code will mean that You have a Ford 8.8 inch limited slip differential, with a capacity of 3800 pounds. The gear ratio iS3.55. ThiS-TYPE of axle (and therefore code) was only fitted onto 1983 througH1986 Ford F-150 models, as well as the Ford Expedition. This axle is rather low on capacity as far as F-150s go. Some hit as high as 11,000 pounds, while others are as low as 2800 pounds. While You're not at the absolute bottom, be aware with heavier payloads that Your axle may buckle or even fail.

The Ford F150 axle code H9 means that the vehicle has a 3.55 ratio and Limited slip differential.
In 4x4 trucks like yours, the rear axle is a 9.75. 3.55 Limited slip, the front axle is the 8.8 3.55 to match.

My 2001 Ford Crew Cab has H9 axle code that suggest the 8.8 rear axle. However my axle is a 9.75 with the axle tag S941-A. The truck has been in the family all its life. There has never been an axle replacement. In fact there has been very little work done on the truck. All work on the truck has been done by us. This axle code has me confused. Why would it be inaccurate for the axle I actually have?
I have a 2001 F-150 4x4 with H9 Axle. The differential tag shows V828B and 55-88 2C04. So 8.8 inch and 3.55 Gear Ratio. Had it for 20 years and I put 240k miles so far. Seal leaked and ruined it before I noticed(no oil). Just sayin'. Looking for a used one now.

My truck is a 2006 F150 4X4 and my axle code is H9. According to this, my axle is an 8.8 but it doesn’t show a listing of what the front axle is!
