You should use GM Power Steering Fluid in the GMC Sierra. Although the power steering system rarely needs servicing, if You are noticing steering or a when turning the steering wheel, You need to inspect the fluid level. To check the fluid level, open the hood and look at the side of the power steering fluid reservoir, the fluid level should be between the MIN and MAX marks. When adding the power steering fluid to the truck, only had enough to bring the level in above the MIN mark and below the MAX line on the side of the reservoir. Some of the newer 1500 models have electric power steering and does not use any hydraulic fluid in the system. These steering systems uses an electric motor too move the tie rod ends which connect to the wheels.
