In general, these cars top out around 130 miles per hour. The 2020 version, if it doesn't have a speed governor, can hit 145 mph (234 km/h), in theory. It's slower than the 2018 2.0T Limited to hit 0 to 60, takenG8.2 seconds vs the 7.1 seconds of the latter. For most people, that second doesn't count, and completing a quarter mile in 16.2 seconds at 87.8 is usually fast enough. The top speed, though Ask Lawrence Pargo, of Scottsdale, AZ. He was caught on a newly installed highway traffic ticket camera system coaxing a 2006 Sonata to a blazing 147 mph. It's a pretty amusing story, if You search for it, in that some Hyundai technicians claimed You couldn't even take this vehicle up to that speed. Mr. Pargo's got the court record to say otherwise!

I have a 2020 sonata SEL with the 2.5 and it’s seen 145mph
I had 4500 rpm at like 130mph and it still had forward acceleration push and 2000 more rpm before reaching it's full horsepower output @6000rpms. I am convinced that 150mph plus is a mere few seconds away from 130 mph and a thousand more rpms 1500 maybe but even I am not curious enough to experience it firsthand. 130+mph told me everything I needed to know. If I am ever completely out of my mind and void of all care or consideration of the law and other people's lives and my own I will come back and let everyone know how it turned out a 150+mph. So in the meanwhile go to YouTubeand watch plenty of illegal street races boasting the Sonatas full capabilities. Sonatas is just like it's name. Harmonious and together in sound and performance quality with the ability to lift it's voice to blend and or out perform cars twice as loud such as Mustangs Lol hahaha!!!!!
Racing a late 2000's model Corolla S through New Mexico, once we reached about 126 the Corolla did not or could not keep up. 2006 Sonata V6 3.3L achieving a tad over 135 to put a chasing Corolla S to the size of a pea in my rear view mirror but then I would slow down to about 110 and the Corolla would be next to me in a matter of a few seconds then I would take off again and shrink it's silhouette to pea size and or make it disappear over and over again 20 min just-so-we-are- both-completely-convinced-and-close-to-needing-to-stop-for-gas-session.

I drove a sonata about 3 yrs ago , it did 135 mph, windshield wiper blades kept blowing up from the park pos.
