The type of oil the 2012 Jeep Liberty takes iS5w-20. Your oil needs to be changed eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't change it, there will be problems with the engine. Having high quality oil is key for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into issues with the oil at some point. A common problem is an awful burning smell. This needs to be inspected as soon as possible or the car might explode. Bad oil can cause the engine to stop working. You could experience terrible gas mileage. Knocking noise may come about from the engine.

I am the original owner of a 2012 Liberty KK 4WD. 5w20 Synthetic Blend is the factory recommended oil. My average M/Y is 6-7 K , so I change it twice a year. I have gone one full year between changes, but those were a couple times of only 5K driving. I have used the best available oil as noted and a couple time used full synthetic. Now 13 ys old, it only has 66K on it. Runs very strong and quiet. Going to service the transmission this spring. FYI...Uniroyal Loredo tires work extremely well with this vehicle, and are excellent in snow.
