You should find the traction control button for the 2004Chevrolet Avalanche located to the left of the steering wheel on the dash near Your gauges. Usually, You want this engaged, so that if Your wheels start to slip, the vehicle can auto-correct before You spin out. However, if You're stuck in the mud or snow, You actually want to turn this off, so that the engine's power isn't limited and You'll be able to dig Yourself out. If there's a fault with this button, service costs to replace it are going to run around $100, on average.
