The 2004 Chevy Silverado EVAP canister is located on the front side of the fuel tank. Inside the canister is activated charcoal which absorbs fuel vapors. Those vapors are then siphoned out once the purge valve opens and flows into the intake manifold. Vent lines from the canister connect to the fuel tank, EVAP vent solenoid, and the EVAP purge solenoid. The purge solenoid typically remains closed while the vent solenoid is open. The purge valve is on the vent line leading to the purge solenoid. While most of the time EVAP system problems are caused by the valves there are times where the canister can crack or clog. Sometimes fuel can also get inside the canister if there is failure elsewhere in the system.

On regular cab short bed models, it is located above the driveshaft to the side of the tank
