2005 models of the Ford Explorer are not equipped with an AUX input. While the factory radio may contain an "AUX" button, if pressed, the system will alert drivers no input is available. Ford uses the same stereo faceplate across several models and some 2005 vehicles are equipped with AUX outlets, but the Ford Explorer is not. The SUV does, however, feature an AM/FM radio, single-disc CD player and 4 speakers. The XLT trim adds a DVD player and a second-row LCD screen, optional MP3 capability, an optional amplifier and rear seat Audio controls. The Explorer's base trim XLS does not feature optional MP3 capability, but owners have used a wireless MP3 adapter that allows them to play music from their smart phone through the radio.

The aux input for the 2005 ford explorer is built into the handi-tray in the center of the dash just above the radio.
