The 2008 Chevy Cobalt's transmission output or "speed" sensor is part of valuable chain of command that monitors the Cobalt's traveling speeds and transmits this information to the vehicle's ECU or main computer. The sensor should be found mounted to the backside of the Cobalt's transmission on the passenger side of the vehicle next to the firewall.
