The vehicle speed sensor in Your 2007 Ford F-150 is responsible for sending data to the transmission to control the timing of gear changes and shifting. If one of the sensors goes bad You will notice rough shifting or sudden surging of the tranny, and the "check engine" light will illuminate. The vehicle speed sensors of the F-150 are installed on either side of the front of the transmission, accessible from underneath the vehicle. The right-sided sensor should be found behind the truck's radiator overflow. The left-hand VSS is placed below some small transmission lines. Changing out either requires a 1" deep well socket. Cost to have a professional mechanic replace the VSSRanges from $130-$250 in parts and labor.
