On the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu's 2.4L variant, You'll find the knock sensor near the rear of the engine, just under the exhaust manifold. You'll see it directly in the engine block, located adjAccent to the top of the cylinder. This placement ensures that it is able to sense engine knock, which is excess vibration occurring during the consumption of fuel. If You're looking to replace it, it's a relatively simple repair. If it fails, it's imperative to get to it sooner than later, and the whole ordeal should take You no longer than an hour or so. Remove the negative terminal from the battery, then disconnect the knock sensor's wiring harness. Unscrew the sensor, replace with a new, primed (anti-seize compound) knock sensor, and plug the wiring harness back in. Reconnect Your battery, and You're good to go.
