The traction control button on the 2011 Ford Escape is located at the very bottom right of the center console instrument panel: It's a pictogRam of a car with two wavy lines behind it and the word "off". If You're s**k in snow, mud or sand, switching off the traction control could help out, because allowing the wheels to spin will sometimes let You "dig" out. Without the traction control enabled, You'll have full engine power and that'll give You more momentum to get out of Your situation. Turning off the traction control is effected by pushing in the traction control off button (mentioned above). It'll resume if You hit the button again, or after You turn off and restart Your engine.
