In the 2017 Ford Escape the remote slot is located on the center console. For 2018 and newer models it is in the front cup holder. To use the backup start method in the event of a dead key fob, simply place the fob in the correct spot then press the start/stop ignition button. Any other objects that may be in either the center console tray or cup holder should be remove prior to placing Your fob. You can also use these slots to progRam keys using the MyKey system. You would place the desired intelligent access key in the backup slot. Turn the ignition to ON then navigate to MyKey in the Settings menu. Next, select Create MyKey. You will hold the OK button until the system tells You to label the key. This key is configured to use safety settings whereas the admin key can still override any settings.

In the 2017 ford escape, the backup key slot is a small tray on the front of the center console. In the 2019 and 2018 ford escape, the backup slot is in the front cup holder. The bottom of the holder is marked with wavy lines, like radio waves. Set the key inside the slot.
