The outside temperature sensor for a Ford F-150 can be found behind the front bumper on the driver's side. It is pretty close to the horn assembly. The outside temperature sensor is used to give You a readout in the car of the ambient air temperature. It also can send a signal to the ECU and let it know the temperature as well. It is important that Your vehicle knows what the temperature of the air is because thinner air is less dense than cold air. This can help the vehicle decide how much air needs to be let into the engine to get an optimal combustion in each cylinder.

You’re ambient temperature sensor is located inside your passenger mirror. I learned this the hard way trying aftermarket towmirrors on my truck. Turns out I gotta buy one for 56$
