The 2000 Toyota Avalon's fuel filter is easily serviceable by both technicians and end users, which gives it an advantage over models that integrate the fuel filter into the fuel pump assembly. You can find it under the intake tube, between the housing for the air filter and the housing for the intake itself. It's recommended that You remove the air filter housing for more convenient access. To replace, You'll need to ensure the car's engine is first off. Remove the housing as noted above, then remove the top gas line shield. Push in the grey tabs on the end of the gas line, then pull off the upper gas line. Use tubing wrenches to remove the bottom line. You'll then be able to remove the filter from the bracket with an 8mm wrench, and replace with a new filter. Be sure to put it together the same way You took it apart.
