You're walking to Your Ford Explorer, and You press the unlock button on Your key fob. The problem is, nothing happens. There are a couple of possible reasons for this. One is that You could be too far away for the computer to register Your attempts. The other, and probable cause, is that the battery in Your key fob has died. If this is the case, all You need to do is replace the battery. You can find the battery at most retail locations, and any automotive parts store. You will need a CR2032 size battery. This will cost You between $3 and $9, on average. You will need to open the fob and replace the battery using a flat head screwdriver.

We just had that exact problem at a gas station...finally got it started and and started driving away while it said key not detected..must have got far enough that the signal from the gas station no longer interfered and it detected that key and all is fine....this is after we double checked battery and FOB and everything.. Ford roadside assistance was no help at all..they just wanted to tow the vehicle .

The ford explorer code for no key detected most often means the battery for the key fob has died.

I found that some gas stations have devices on the same frequency as the Ford FOB and it prevents the matching signal from unlocking the computer to allow the car to start. It happened to me 4 times at the same station before we figured it out. The station had to turn off their ad board So I could start the vehicle and move it.
