You're driving Your 2011 Ford Escape to work or the store one morning, when it starts to rain, and You find Yourself unable to see clearly through Your windshield. You try to turn on Your rear windshield wiper, but it doesn't work. What is going on If You hear and see the blade attempt to move, but become stuck, You may simply have a worn or broken blade. Replacing the blade will cost You between $8 and $22 on average. If the wiper is still in good condition, You may be experiencing a wiper motor that has stopped working. Replacing the motor will cost You between $40 and $90 for parts alone.

The most common reason for a rear wiper on most Ford Escapes to stop working, is a seized motor. The design of these things allow moisture buildup inside, and eventually leads to the motor seizing. It can be fixed if you’re lucky taking the motor off. Being lucky involves being able to remove the main nut on the outside of the glass, without breaking the dumb plastic the dumbasses at Ford thought was a good idea to use on something that sees extreme weather. 9 times out of 10, the plastic breaks, and then the motor is junk. My nephews 2009, I was lucky to break the nut free without breaking the plastic it’s attached to. I then took the motor apart, cleaned the rust off the parts I could, regreased everything with bearing grease, and put it all back together. That was over 2 years ago, and it still works, as I put enough grease in there to make sure water can’t easily get in and cause problems again. My 2011, I wasn’t so lucky with. I couldn’t break the main nut by hand, even after soaking it for over 20 minutes with WD-40. I was afraid with the amount of pressure I was using trying to break it free, that I could potentially break the glass, which I definitely didn’t want. So I took the air impact gun to it, and lets just say, I’ve just ordered a new motor from Rock Auto lol.

The most common electrical problem in your windshield wiper system is a blown fuse
