If the Ford Escape auto start-stop is not working then there are two common reasons. The first is that the temperature outside is too hot or cold. If the car has to divert power to fans or other systems then it will not have enough for the start-stop. The other reason is that the fuse that powers the system has burned out. To get to the fuse box look to the left of the steering wheel look for a small seam or crack along the dash. Using a screwdriver or prybar You will want to pop this open. On the inside, You will find a bunch of fuses. On the back of the panel that You pulled open, You will see a diagram that will show You what each of the fuses is for. If this is not on the back of the panel then You can also find it in the owner's annual for the vehicle. Once You have figured out which fuse You need simply pull it out. The two sections that stick up should be connected by a thin strip of metal. If this has been broken then the fuse is no good and will need to be replaced. If this strip is there then the fuse is fine and can be popped back in. New fuses will cost You about 10 dollars, so they are pretty cheap.

Came upon this thread while researching why the Auto start-stop wasn't working on my 2017 Escape. We bought it used in 2019 with 38K on it. It's going on 5 years old now and the battery is original I'm sure. Would a battery in decline also cause the auto start-stop to disable?

What’s wrong with my auto start it only stays on for 10 seconds then shuts off. How do I get it to stay on?

When temperatures outside your ford escape vehicle become too extreme, i.E. Too hot or cold your vehicle's start/stop function will not work. The battery needs more power to supply other functions like the engine's fam and start/stop will automatically shut off.

If you turn the car offand restart it, it will automatically come back on, or on the console in front of the armrest there is a push button on the right that turns it on/off.

Took my 2019 escape in for this reason Southgate ford couldn’t fix it charged me 125 still doesn’t work. Plus I get about 24 miles to the gallon on freeway they found no problems or reason why. My bigger Chevy equinox gets 31. Can’t wait to get rid of escape

If your battery is getting near to the end of its life it does not work

Not an answer but wanted to share. My auto stop start stopped working a few weeks ago.Set up an appt.with dealer to check it out. Today as it was raining and dark, my auto lights came on. When they did my high beams flashed on for about 20 secs. Did so three times. Then stayed off. I then stopped an an intersection and the auto stop came on. Has been working since. Maybe my car needs an exorcism

It’s because Ford can’t sort it out it works fine in any temperature on my focus and fiesta but not in the escape . And Ford just give you the run around all three cars are less than three years old and they are all driven the same way. The same amount .

If the problem with auto start stop has been ongoing for a month or two then most likely the battery is getting weak. Replace it with a new AGM battery with compatible specs of the original. Once the new battery is in the car start the engine and idle it to normal operating temperature. During this time reset the clock and radio stations and the bounce back feature of the power windows. Then drive the car for at least 16 km (10 miles) Turn off the car and lock the doors and leave the car to sleep for at least 8 hours. Back to working like new again :)
