Passenger room is better than many other small cars, it’s very fuel efficient and the all-wheel drive system works great in the snow.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The base engine is fairly weak, there are some cheap plastic buttons on the dash and there’s a lot of road noise.

10 year repeat customer!!
I have had Imprezas for almost 10 years and I have 0 complaints. They are safe and reliable. The driving is very smooth and you feel almost no bumps on bumpy roads. The car has great features like drifting warnings, obstacle detection if a car in front of your stops, detection for obstacles when backing up, and it even alerts you if the car in front of you goes at a green light and you haven't moved yet. There is also a blind spot indicator on both side mirrors.

My vehicle works very well and every day I drive it and I have had no issues.
It works very well. It is a very beautiful car. Drives very smoothly with great gas mileage. Every day I drive it and I only get gas about once a week. Breaks and gas work very well. Many features offered including cruise control, Bluetooth audio and etc.

Best vehicle for any adventure.
So far, I have had zero problems with my 2020 Subaru Impreza. It is my favorite car to drive. With the fold down back seats, grocery shopping is a breeze! The gas mileage is fantastic as well! I feel like I rarely have to stop and fill up, and when I do, it is extremely cheap to fill! It drives effortlessly smoothly down the roads and the plush yet modern interior makes for a comfortable ride, no matter the length of your journey. The all-wheel-drive means we can venture anywhere! Plus an extra bonus for our family is the snowboard carrying racks mounted on top. Now we can bring everyone and their gear up to the mountain for a full day of fun!

I have had no problems this vehicle is fantastic. It has a great sound system and the self drive mode is a life saver if I start to get tired. The car is really to new to say anything bad about it but I have no complaints thus far still really excited. This car will be my first new car and the most expensive thing I have purchased to date.

Reliable; safe; fast; easy to handle.
Performance: wish it had a little more horsepower and sunroof; great work with traction control for AWD and in dirt, sand, and snow terrain. Comfort: love heated seats and back up camera, sport feeling for the steering wheel; wish it had blind spot detectors for side mirrors. Reliability: 5 stars. Problems: android auto connection, bottoms out very frequently, lowered too much.

One of the best cars I have owned.
I love the fact of the moon roof. Its it very nice to have open on sunny days. The car has really nice features on the steering wheel. It allows you to pick up phone calls, hang up phone calls, you can also use the hand free option and it can turn up the volume on the radio or down the volume. It also has a cruise control that allows you to set how far back you want to be from the car in front of you, this allows you to slow down and speed up without using your gas pedal. The car is also equipped with an amazing speaker system, the sound is incredible.

Very beautiful color. Nice seats.
I love this car more than anything. Super safe super reliable. Super amazing. Good mileage. Great investment for sure. I couldn't have found a better car for myself to drive every day. I personally am really happy with any Subaru in general if I am honest, and would always tell people to go there and look into subaru’s for themselves and the rest of their family members.

The vehicle drives really well for the price point, which I greatly appreciate.
Overall the car performs well. The brakes are constantly squeaking no matter how many times I have them fixed. Good quality car with little to no issues.
So far the car has been reliable, with good gas mileage. Service has been good & the employees at Subaru have been great. The car was not the exact model I wanted but I did not want to wait an extended period of time to get the model that I wanted. Other than that the car has been good.

My favorite feature is the obstacle detection.
Vehicle runs smoothly and I have had no issues. It is a bit small inside but I fit comfortably and I have a full size forward facing car seat in the back as well as a booster seat. On occasion the stereo will have issues with apple CarPlay or not connecting to my media correctly.

Subaru Impreza: very practical, versatile car that suits an urban lifestyle.
I don't really like driving stick shift that much but it was the cheapest option and I wanted all wheel drive which is hard to find within my ideal price range so I went with this model. Also Subaru has a very good reputation in the auto industry.

Safe, reliable, sleek looking car.
This car has excellent safety features. It has a lot of space in the trunk and is a smooth ride with great gas mileage. The body is sleek and sporty. It is still a wagon, but it does not really look or feel like one. I highly recommend this car for families because of the safety features. You can also put the seats down come to move and haul things.
accountCircle Shannon M
The hatchback has plenty of room in trunk without having to get a bigger car.
Heat crack in window first month I bought it. Issues with radio and Bluetooth constantly. Automatic braking when car believes there to be an obstacle ahead is very frustrating. 4 wheel drive makes the car very worth it. Plenty of storage in the trunk in the hatchback. Plenty of room in the back seat.
accountCircle Ti L
The car is really good in performance when driving in harsh weather conditions.
The car eats gas only get it if you want a car to show off and nothing else. The 4 wheel is good with snow tires and not all round tires. People should take into account the car has good steering and braking. Good features include android auto connecting to your phone.

Looks cool and drives fast.
Works and drives well. Would like more space for storage and leg space though. Speakers could play louder without the audio lowering. I wish the speakers were able to produce more volume and bass. That is the biggest fault in my opinion. There's no CD compartment either or spot to hold sunglasses. It is still a cool looking car and drives well. I enjoy it for the most part aside from the major audio issue.

What Do Critics Say About the Subaru Impreza?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Subaru Impreza offers a comfortable ride and a user-friendly driving experience, with good owner satisfaction scores as it ages.
  • Edmunds rates the Subaru Impreza at 4.1/5, and enjoys the roomy cabin, but doesn’t like the lower-quality interior materials compared to some other small cars.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Impreza a 4.3/5, praising the standard all-wheel drive system, but owners don’t like the lackluster performance from the engine.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Subaru Impreza Have?

Common problems found on the 2020 Subaru Impreza include windshield wiper issues, worn out brakes, along with some chipping paint. Overall, these problems are relatively minor compared to other small cars on the market, leading to lower repair costs as the Impreza ages.

Windshield wiper issues are the most widespread complaint from 2020 Impreza owners, showing up at around 10,000 miles. The wiper motor is known to wear out quickly, and has to be replaced. Installing a new wiper motor is a pretty straightforward process, and costs around $200.

Worn-out brakes have also been mentioned by some 2020 Subaru Impreza owners within the first 15,000 miles. The brake pads tend to wear down quicker than in some other cars. A new set of brake pads costs around $250, while rotors are an additional $400 if they have been damaged.

Chipping paint is another problem that shows up on some Impreza models within the first 1,000 miles. Paint on the front bumper and hood is particularly susceptible to chipping when hit with stones and debris. The only way to fix the problem is by repainting the affected panels at a cost of around $1,000 per panel.

There’s only one recall on the 2020 Subaru Impreza, which is better than other small cars from the same year. The recall covers the fuel pump, which may fail, and cause the engine to stall. Subaru will replace the fuel pump in affected models for free.

How Long Will the 2020 Subaru Impreza Last?

A well-maintained 2020 Impreza can last around 200,000 miles, which is shorter than some other small cars like the Toyota Corolla. Regular annual maintenance costs are a bit higher than the competition, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $613 per year.

As a used 2020 Subaru Impreza sedan reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history report, owners should be prepared to replace the brake fluid for around $150, front shocks costing $550, along with the radiator, which costs about $750.

How Is the Technology?

The standard entertainment technology is great, and includes a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Optional upgrades include a more powerful stereo system along with a larger 8-inch touchscreen.

Standard safety technology is fairly basic, and only features a rearview camera.

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Forward and reverse automatic emergency braking
  • Lane departure warning
  • Blind spot monitoring

Is the 2020 Subaru Impreza a Good Value?

Yes, the 2020 Subaru Impreza is a good value if you’re in the market for a small car with some practicality. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $16,875 to $24,998, making it less than a Honda Civic or Mazda3. When new, the price range was $18,695 to $26,295. Depreciation is better than some other small cars, only losing around 5% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Subaru Impreza?

There are four different models of the 2020 Impreza offered, from the entry-level Base through to the more luxurious Limited. It’s offered as a sedan or a hatchback. All-wheel drive is also standard across all models.

What Engines Come In the Subaru Impreza?

The 2020 Subaru Impreza is powered by a 2.0-liter flat-four BOXER engine that produces 152 horsepower at up to 32 MPG. Paired with this engine is either a five-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). As for acceleration, when equipped with the CVT, the Impreza takes around 9.5 seconds to go from 0 to 60 MPH. Those opting for the manual transmission might find the acceleration a tad brisker, but it’s still in the ballpark of the CVT-equipped models.

What Colors Does the Subaru Impreza Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Subaru Impreza?

The 2020 Subaru Impreza is designed with both driver and passenger comfort in mind, providing a pleasant experience on the road. The seats in the Impreza are supportive and cushioned, suitable for long drives without inducing fatigue. For those in colder climates or seeking a touch of luxury, higher trims offer heated front seats. The cabin is adorned with quality materials, and while it might not reach the opulence of some luxury brands, it provides an upscale feel for its class.

The suspension system effectively absorbs most road imperfections, delivering a smooth and stable ride. Furthermore, noise insulation is commendable, with minimal road and wind noise intruding into the cabin. The spacious interior, ample legroom, and headroom in both the front and rear guarantee that passengers of all sizes can ride in comfort. Additionally, the user-friendly infotainment system and logically arranged controls contribute to an overall stress-free driving experience.

How Much Storage Space Does the Subaru Impreza Have?

The 2020 Subaru Impreza offers a generous amount of storage space that varies slightly depending on the body style you opt for. In the sedan version, the trunk provides about 12.3 cubic feet of space, which is enough to fit a couple of medium-sized suitcases or a week’s worth of groceries. If you opt for the hatchback, you get an even roomier 20.8 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats.

When you fold the rear seats down in the hatchback, this space expands to a commendable 55.3 cubic feet, allowing for larger items like bicycles, camping gear, or a significant amount of luggage. Additionally, the Impreza boasts various small interior storage solutions, including door pockets, a center console compartment, and cup holders, making sure that passengers have plenty of spots to stow smaller items for easy accessibility.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The fifth generation of the Subaru Impreza was launched for the 2017 model year.

2015: Standard rearview camera and cruise control, new optional 6.2-inch screen available, and an optional advanced safety package is offered.

2016: Subaru’s Starlink Cloud applications now offered on all models.

2017: Fully redesigned for the fifth generation with improved exterior styling, more technology, and new engine choices.

2018: Standard automatic wipers on the Premium, Sport, and Limited models.

2019: Additional features added to the EyeSight safety system, manual transmission has improved short-throw shifters.

2020: Small exterior styling changes, including new headlights, EyeSight driver assistance is now standard on Premium and Sport models.

2021: Better engine management software now offered on the Premium model.

How Does the Subaru Impreza Compare to the Competition?

The 2020 Subaru Impreza is a nice small car offering a great all-wheel drive system paired with a practical cabin that is comfortable for drivers and passengers.

The Honda Civic is another compact car, which can be found for about $2,500 more. Ownership costs are lower on the Honda Civic, while the Subaru Impreza offers better driving performance in the snow and dirt. We recommend the Honda Civic, although both are good cars worth testing to see which you prefer.

The VW Jetta is a popular competitor, available for about $1,000 more. Passenger room is a bit better in the VW Jetta, while the Subaru Impreza is a more efficient choice. We recommend the VW Jetta, but both are similar cars and worth trying out to see which fits your style better.

It works very well in the winter!
I like my Subaru. I am not happy with the color selections for it though. Back in the 60s you could get all kinds of colors for your car. Now you are limited to white, black, silver/grey, red and blue. As for the performance of the car, I love it. With the all-wheel drive, I can get up and down my driveway in the winter without too much shoveling.

My thoughts on my 2020 Subaru Impreza: overall a good car, for the price.
I love this car, however there are two issues that are a big problem. The first problem is that it sits so low in front. The body of the car sits low in general, but particularly in from where I scrape against the ground just getting into my driveway or pulling into parking spaces with a cement marker. The other is the Bluetooth connection, when I use hands free, everyone says it sounds like I am in a wind tunnel, and this is with all windows closed and radio off.

Smooth like butter, fast like a cheetah.
It is a smooth ride! Sometimes I catch myself speeding a bit because I do not feel the roughness of the road! The heated seats are amazing and the back-up camera is a must have! I spend a lot of time in the car and the seats are so comfortable! The gas mileage is amazing too! I am not filling up as often as my friends!

Thoughts on my 2020 Impreza.
It is ok on performance overall, it is slower than my Hyundai Elantra 2017 model. I only get around 28 mpg overall. The car starts up loud sometimes for whatever reason. The radio glitches out when I put the car in reverse or even when I just start it up which is an issue for me which is why I would rate the car 4/5. The car is strong I hit a deer and it did minimal damage.

2020 subaru impreza, the car for every lifestyle.
The 2020 subaru impreza is a great car for someone looking for a car that has features for everyone. For a mother, it has a hatchback which makes it easy to change a diaper or to pack all the groceries in that you got that day. For an outdoors person, it is all wheel drive and can withstand all terrain. The front cameras with crash detection makes you feel all the more safe. If the car detects a crash is about to happen it will stop your car immediately. When you connect your phone to the usb in the car a feature called carplay will pop up and it has all the information from your phone. This feature makes it incredibly easy to play music, send a text with your voice, call, and even ask siri the weather report. Subaru’s are reliable and safe for anyone. One downside is the controls for the seat are all manual not electric. It is 2020 and most base model cars have electric controls for their seats. I wish subaru would change that. Other than that, the 2020 subaru impreza is a great car that can fit all different kinds of lifestyles.

The car is roomy for the sized vehicle and generally is very comfortable. The trunk area is smaller than I expected but nothing else is wrong with it.

Subaru Impreza: a great ride.
Love my Subaru, technology is first rate, handle well, safe in the snow. Mine is silver, do not care for the lane assist so I turn that off. Do like the leaving your lane warning though. Comfy to ride in. Needs bigger cup holders. To fit a large nalgene bottle.

The title of my review is best car ever.
The car is really well built. It has a solid quality to it. I haven't had any issues with it as of yet. I am impressed with the little touches that show it is engineered with care. The ride is super smooth and really quiet. The only downside is the infotainment system is way over complicated.

Impreza is a comfortable and sleek drive, takes some adapting to new technology.
It is a very comfortable car with plenty of inside cargo space and a spacious trunk (sedan model) for storage. I like how customizable the display is (such as backgrounds, brightness, volume level for alerts, etc). I do wish you had a few more options for the dashboard display, this is able to change from speed, tire pressure, and a few other vehicle information - but I wish it also displayed radio information as well - especially if you have map navigation up on the main display. My only drawback is how sensitive the steering is, it is very responsive but to the point of just shifting your hands or weight can jerk the car and there's not a way that I have found to adjust the sensitivity. I also have the lane assist feature, which in theory is helpful. However, I do have it turned 'off' as there's a lot of construction going on near my work where the lanes are not always clear. Even in 'off' mode though, the car will still sometimes jerk a little to try to get you in the lane.

2020 Subaru Impreza hatchback.
I love this car. It is peppy enough to get up to speed on the highway. It is very comfortable to sit in and all of the infotainment buttons are within easy reach. It is a hatchback which I love. My only regret was I wasn't able to get the limited or sport trim.

The eyesight in this car is awesome and really makes the car extremely safe.
Great in snow. Really smooth ride. Small car but haven’t had issues with clearance. The sound system is awesome. It has eyesight which makes insurance cheap and awesome. The auto braking system is great and makes the car feel really safe. The lane departure is awesome as well. Really reliable car and all around the best AWD I have driven. Living in a place that the snow gets bad, this car makes me feel so safe and confident driving.

It is comfortable and reliable.
I am not the person who drives it, but it is the main vehicle used. From what I can tell, it drives well. It is a newer car, so we haven't had any problems with it yet. Some of the added features like the heated seats are nice. As well as the ability to have a built in GPS, and the ability to sync your phone.

Subaru 5 door Impreza limited.
I love my 5 door Impreza, I just wish it was not so low to the ground. It rides and handles great, and looks good as well, but needs to be a bit higher. I owned a forester about 10 years ago, and subaru’s are much more expensive than years ago! Wonderful reliable vehicles.

Outstanding all around car
For a second car or a primary car for a couple, this is hard to beat. Roomy, one of the best handling cars I have ever owned. Love the awd and safety features. MPG is 28 in town, 34 or more hwy. If very high MPG is your primary goal, get a hybrid. But if you are looking for a small, well made roomy and fun car, give this o e a close look.

Great safe car - only buying Subaru from now on.
This is an amazing vehicle, I had not owned a car in over 11 years when I need to make this purchase. Subaru's have so many safety features that are included, instead of so many other companies, that make every item feel like an additional cost. Safety to them is number one.

Great car, really comfortable and reliable.
Good with gas. I was able to drive from Washington to Oregon on one tank of gas. Really comfortable and spacious. Car feels really smooth when driving. Car has sensors to tell you if you are driving outside of your lane. Had the car for about 6 months and it still feels brand new.
