The 2020 Volkswagen Jetta lasts around 250,000 miles with relatively minor oil consumption and transmission noise issues reported. At $14,879 to $28,499, it’s a great value for an entry-level German sedan with a comfortable cabin.

likeFilled The Good
The suspension is very smooth, there’s more storage space than the competition and there’s a lot of safety technology available.
dislikeFilled The Bad
It’s not as sporty as other compact sedans, there’s a lot of plastic buttons on the dash and the brakes are twitchy at low speeds.

Wonderful affordable safe car!
I love this car! Good apple play system, automatic transmission. Fantastic gas mileage - about 40 mph highway. The only weird thing is I get a notification when the temperature is below 40 - I do not know why this happens. Rear-view camera and warning on window are very helpful.

New Jetta exceeds expectations.
My car drives well with good handling and pickup. I also enjoy the trim benefits, including digital cockpit and the stereo system. The leatherette is very comfortable and does not damage easily. It has a heated steering wheel and mirrors, which are great benefits. The car is larger than the older Jetta without being too large, so it is very comfortable to drive and fits what I need. It is an improvement over my older previous Jetta. It also looks better, much sportier than my older version. I haven't had any issues. Gas mileage is great on highways, but much weaker in traffic.

My Jetta is very comfortable and has a nice quiet and smooth ride to it. There's no issues with reliability and gas mileage is great. The one improvement would be some better performance and I know I have the base model, but the extra features are pretty minimal.

I bought 2020 Jetta in November. I have been doing a lot of research on many cars , so I didn’t jump into this. I bought the SE MODEL, it has everything needed for a comfortable drive. I traded a 2012 Mazda 6 in for this. Despite this being considered a compact car, it has plenty of room and is much easier to get out of. Some people complained about it being too “plastic-y.” Anytime there is cloth on the doors of cars it does nothing but get ruined. Everything in here is easy to wipe down. I live in the desert so dust is a constant factor, so an easy wipe down is much appreciated. The engine has plenty get up and go for expressway driving. The cockpit is perfect. I plug my iPhone in and voila! There is my music, maps and all the iPhone apps that I use on a daily basis. Couldn’t be easier. This car was a fair price and for me, it has everything I need for my comfort!

I love my 2020 Jetta and you would too:).
I love all the new features in the 2020 Jetta, especially the carnet app, remote start, and digital dash! The mpg is also comparable to other common cars, namely Honda’s and Toyota’s. CarPlay is definitely a must in cars nowadays and I love that it includes a wireless charger!

A vehicle with all wheel drive, great gas mileage, ‘smart’ as a phone with safety and reminder indicators at dashboard. Panoramic sunroof gives sporty class. Rtf tires give sporty fast. Fold down rear seats make space for business. Led headlights allow longer vision views.

Looks good inside and out. Garbage transmission.
The whole transmission was replaced after owning it for less than a year. Still has transmission problems and will be taking it back for another service asap! Looks good and has a great interior but I will not be buying another Volkswagen ever again.

New Volkswagen car that is very fast.
It is very fast and pretty new since I bought it 3 months ago. I just bought it so it has no problems that I know of. Although the windshield wipers a little bit of a problem since it takes them longer to clean the windows. I really love the care and recommend to everyone interested in Volkswagen cars.

My risky, but cute Volkswagen Jetta.
It is only front wheel drive, so it will not be so good in snow and rain. It drives pretty smoothly. I love the interior! It is black and white leather, so it looks sporty. The seats are very comfortable, and you can store many things inside. The exterior is white. This car has apple carplay, which was one of the reasons why I purchased this car. My car also has a good size sunroof.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta wind noise.
My main concern with the vehicle is the amount of cabin noise when I drive. Typically, I drive exclusively on the highway, so I drive at 70 mph +. It gets annoying having to hear the wind rattle on my way to work. Aside from that, the performance, reliability, and the features are fine given the price tag of the car.

What Do Critics Say About the VW Jetta?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta is a praise-worthy compact car with impressive fuel economy and high owner satisfaction scores
  • Edmunds rates the Jetta at 3.9/5, praising the smooth ride for a compact car, but doesn’t like the brakes feel grabby.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Jetta a 4.2/5, enjoying the spacious interior, but owners don’t like that there’s less safety technology than some competitors.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta Have?

Common problems found on the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta include excessive oil consumption, loud noises while changing gears, along with squeaky rear brakes. Overall, most of these problems are relatively minor, leading to average repair costs as the Jetta ages.

Excessive oil consumption is the most widespread complaint from 2020 Jetta owners in the first 5,000 miles. Usually the extra oil consumption is normal for the engine. To reduce wear and tear on the components, VW allows some oil to be burnt. The best thing to do is check the oil level regularly and top it off as needed if it starts to get too low.

Loud noises while changing gears are another issue mentioned by Jetta owners at roughly 7,500 miles. In most cases, the noise is just part of the normal transmission operation while downshifting. In rare cases it’s caused by a damaged synchro ring from the factory. Having the transmission repaired early into the ownership experience is usually covered under warranty. If your car has issues out of warranty then a rebuild can cost around $1,200.

Squeaky rear brakes also show up on some Jetta models at around 15,000 miles. The rear brake pads tend to wear out quicker since they’re not as thick as the front ones. Replacing the rear brake pads costs around $250, depending on local labor rates.

There are four recalls on the 2020 Jetta, which is more than some other compact cars from the same year. The most serious recall covers the brake caliper bolts, which may be too loose from the factory The other recalls cover tire pressure losses, along with air bags, which are common on all cars.

How Long Will the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta Last?

A well-maintained 2020 VW Jetta can last around 250,000 miles, which is only slightly shorter than the long-lasting Toyota Corolla. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other small cars, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at around $414 per year.

As a used 2020 Volkswagen Jetta reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history owners should be prepared to replace the brake master cylinder for $350, ignition coils costing $150, along with the heater hose which costs around $650.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is great in the 2020 Jetta with a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen which has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. There’s an optional 8-inch touchscreen found on higher-end models and a more powerful BeatsAudio stereo system.

Safety technology is good for a compact car, offering a standard rearview camera.

Optional advanced driver assistance features include:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane keep assist
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane departure warning
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Automatic high beam headlights

Is the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta a Good Value?

Yes, the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta is a good value since you get a lot of technology and comfort in a small sedan for the money. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $14,879 to $28,499, making it similar to a Honda Civic or Mazda3. When new, the price range was $18,895 to $30,745. Depreciation is similar to other small sedans, losing about 10% of its current value per year.

There are five different models of the main VW Jetta offered for the 2020 model year, from the base S model, all the way up to the more luxurious SEL Premium model. The Jetta is only offered with front-wheel drive. There’s also a high performance Jetta GLI model.

  • An available upgrade is the stronger 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder which produces 228 horsepower and gets up to 28 MPG. It also has either the six-speed manual transmission or the eight-speed automatic. Performance is good, taking 6 seconds to go from 0-60 MPH.

What Colors Does the VW Jetta Come In?

How Comfortable Is the VW Jetta?

The 2020 VW Jetta offers a comfortable and refined driving experience, thanks to its well-designed cabin and focus on driver and passenger comfort.

The seats are spacious and supportive, with ample legroom and headroom, even for taller passengers. The Jetta also offers a smooth and composed ride, with a suspension that effectively absorbs road imperfections and minimizes the amount of road noise that enters the cabin.

The interior of the 2020 Jetta is well-designed and features high-quality materials

that enhance the overall feel of the car. The dashboard and door panels are made of soft-touch materials, while the steering wheel and shift knob are covered in a tactile, leather-like material. These features, combined with the spacious and supportive seats, create a welcoming and comfortable environment for drivers and passengers.

How Much Storage Space Does the VW Jetta Have?

The trunk in the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta has a storage capacity of 14.1 cubic feet, making it a relatively spacious option for a compact sedan. This should be enough storage space for a weekend getaway or grocery shopping, but may not be enough for a large family trip with multiple suitcases. The trunk is also designed with practicality in mind, featuring a wide opening and a low lift height for easy loading and unloading of cargo.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The seventh generation of the VW Jetta was launched for the 2019 model year.

2015: Improved interior quality along with some small exterior styling changes.

2016: New entry-level engine, standard touchscreen stereo system, diesel engine removed for this year.

2017: Standard rearview camera on all models, USB port added to the stereo system.

2018: New wheels available, Wolfsburg Edition added.

2019: Fully redesigned for the seventh generation with new engines, technology, and styling choices.

2020: Standard Car-Net telecommunications system, wireless charging added, six-speed manual transmission on the R-Line model.

2021: Upgraded stereo system on the SEL and higher models.

How Does the VW Jetta Compare to the Competition?

The 2020 Volkswagen Jetta is a very nice compact car compared to the competition since it offers an entry-level German car driving experience for shoppers on a budget.

The Honda Civic is another compact car available for around $2,000 more. The Honda Civic is a bit sportier to drive, while the VW Jetta offers a roomier interior for a compact sedan. We recommend the Honda Civic since they’re cheaper to own, although it’s worth testing out both to see which you prefer.

The

Volkswagen Passat is a larger sedan offered by VW which can be found for about $2,500 more. There’s more passenger room in the VW Passat, while the VW Jetta has more advanced safety technology available. For the 2020 model year, we recommend the VW Jetta since it’s more up-to-date, but in earlier years the competition is closer.

The 2020 Volkswagen Jetta is a no brainer for a reliable and stylish vehicle.
Have had the for 2 months now. The gas mileage is exceptional getting 46 mpg on the highway and 30 mpg in the city. It is a 6 speed manual with a very soft clutch. Apple carplay, Bluetooth, cruise control and front heated seats. Maintenance package is covered up to 50,000 miles.

The Jetta is comfortable and just sporty enough for an entry-level car.
I really enjoy my Jetta. I have not had any major problems so far. It is comfortable and handles well for an entry-level vehicle. It is no sports car by any means, but it will handle curves without trouble. I love all the technology and features for the price. Adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, digital instruments, ambient lighting, and more. My only complaints would be the engine can make unpleasant noises, but it is not often. Also, the beats audio system is less impressive than one might expect.

2020 Volkswagen Jetta an amazing car no one wants to buy.
I give 4 stars due to the fact that shortly after I got my car it needed to be serviced. Other than that it's a great car the manual shifter is really good and easy to switch gears with a really nice click when it does pop into gear. Although the manual is really great a major setback it the rev hang when changing gears. When trying to switch gears fast the rev hang makes shifting clunky, slow, and generally unpleasant. However that being said the car really wasn't to be a fast shifting manual car due to the nature of the car being an economy car. The dual-clutch auto transmission shifts very smoothly and quickly so if you want fast shifts pick the automatic trans.

Only one USB port stinks - two more would be nice.
No problems, great acceleration, comfortable seats front and back. Doors open and close like normal, acceleration is pretty good but not lightning fast. The turbo adds a bit of snazzy snap to everyday driving. Who wants a slow sedan, not this guy for sure.

I love my car, it handles so well around corners and drives extremely solid during winter especially in snow. Review of new 2020 Jetta featuring phone integration system.
We have had our Jetta for about a month now. We bought it new and have had no problems so far. My favorite feature is the phone integration system. The system was easy to set up and easily recognizes both my phone and my husband's phone. The screen tilts slightly towards the driver, which is nice. It makes looking at the screen while you are driving easier. The map display and function is awesome. The leg room in this car is spectacular. My husband is over 6'6' and he fits comfortably in both the driver seat and the passenger seat. The trunk is also spacious and can hold a lot.

I love all the new features in the 2020 Jetta, especially the carnet app, remote start, and digital dash! The mpg is also comparable to other common cars, namely Honda’s and Toyota’s. CarPlay is definitely a must in cars nowadays and I love that it includes a wireless charger!

The Jetta has a nice design that is close to the floor and a great inside tools.
The car's initiation of speed on the highway can take awhile. I do appreciate the car's layout in the interior. The car is also very slick in terms of it is style. I also am very delighted with the car's sound. It is very silent going up to speed through which is nice.

Being smaller than the passat the Jetta is extremely spacious and great ac.
Before I got my Jetta I had 3 other vehicles all used and maybe I just have bad car luck but each one had so many issues I couldn't handle it since owning my Jetta I haven't had a single problem I love the reliability the gas mileage honestly everything about it.

Overall great experiences.
Very reliable. Comfortable drive and feels like a luxury car. Good acceleration and great handling at high speeds. I love the technology in it, amazing features for the price. My favorite is the sunroof and push to start. Easy and quick to navigate in traffic. Great gas mileage.

It is great on gas, spaces, and it is a great car for a family of five.
It is a super reliable car it gets me from point a to point b no problem and for a sports car it great on gas. It is a great family car because it has very comfortable space in the back seat you do not have to worry about not having any space because no one would ever be uncomfortable.

My Jetta is seriously amazing!
I have not had any problems with my car, so far. It gets great gas mileage and I love how quiet it is. Everyone I know thinks that they car is cute and sporty at the same time, which I love. I also feel very safe in it. My previous car was also a Jetta (a 2005 model) and I got into a wreck and totaled it. However, I was completely fine thanks to the safety features in my vehicle.

Everyone needs to get a Jetta!
I have had almost no problems with the car. It is very reliable and all the sensors that appear are easily diagnosed in a body shop. I love the stick shift and the touch screen is great with apple music. If you ever have to fix something on the car it is relatively easy and quick to get a part in.

Best vehicle by Volkswagen.
The car is a very nice and comfortable car the seats are wonderful the car is very nice for a small family for about 4 to 2 people or even just yourself. These are some very good and reasonable answers on why the car I have is a very good and useful car for long road trips and for smaller families.

The Jetta is comparable to an Audi.
I love my car honestly. It drives like an Audi and is very stylish. It contains features like apple CarPlay that allows me to listen to music, use navigation, answer calls/ texts safely, etc. It's a very safe car as well. Highly rated. There's a lot of room for a sedan. The sound is incredible as well.

Powerful and sharp looking.
My Jetta is awesome! I just do not like that every time you come to a stop it shuts off and then starts back up. I understand that it is a newer feature but it just seems to do it at the wrong time. Like pulling into the driveway. Other than that I love the car.

You can customize the color of your interior lights!
I love my new Jetta. This is my third Volkswagen and third Jetta at that. My new Jetta gets wonderful gas mileage. I typically get around 30-35 miles per gallon depending on the roads I am driving on. It has beats audio speakers which sound very nice. The navigation screen is completely touch screen. It is easy to use and safe-it blocks out features while you are driving.
