2019 Toyota Camry Review: Very Reliable Midsize Sedan With Low Long-Term Ownership Costs

Alex Showalter
Dec 27, 2022

The 2019 Toyota Camry lasts around 300,000 miles with only some minor transmission software and A/C system issues reported. At $20,650 to $27,550, it’s pricey, but worth it for one of the longest-lasting sedans on the market.

likeFilled The Good
The suspension is very smooth, there’s a lot of standard technology and plenty of passenger room.
dislikeFilled The Bad
There’s a lot of engine noise, the steering feels loose and the low suspension makes it difficult to climb into for older passengers.

My vehicle is great for a car! Also love lane departure and back up camera.
My car has a back up cam that works really well. Has a feature called lane departure warning that beeps when I go outside of a plane without a blinker. Has a emergency button that I can press for emergency services to be deployed to my location once pressed.

Best car that I choose in my life.
No problems. It is a good vehicle. Runs good, ac it is good do not consume that much of gasoline. It is a perfect car for a family, a lot of space very spacious in the back seats. I recommend this car to everybody. Toyota Camry it is the best election that I did last year.

The most reliable and comfy car.
The Toyota Camry hardly gives any problems, the only problem I have had with the Camry is that one of the seatbelts wouldn't buckle right, we had to take it in, to have that looked at and repaired. However, the Toyota Camry is a very reliable car, your gas tank will doe sure last you a week or longer depending on the distance you travel, I have had the car for a year and other than taking it in for the seat belt and regular oil changes I have not had to take it for anything else. A comfy car, it had a very smooth ride, hardly feel any bumps on the road, and you a very good space in the back to put your toddler or any passengers comfortably. The driver seat is electric and you can have it as far back as you would like by the passenger is not. Some of the features I love in the car is the way is the way your phone can connect to the car, you can see your messages and even the maps from your phone. You are able to take calls without taking your hands off the wheel, and even though is a fairly small you are able to fit all the groceries in the back, and even all the baby gear. Another feature I love about the Camry is having the feature to see the diagnostics of the car off the dashboard, or you can change it to see your speed or even your contacts to make a call on the go.

Once you connect your phone it’ll connect to your default music app.
The only problem I have encountered with my car is that in times when it is over 107 degrees outside there will be a delay on the touch screen that operates the radio/apple pay. I feel this is an issue that related to where you live and the delay is only a few minutes once the car “cools down” it no longer becomes an issue. I love my car, the drive is incredibly smooth and it has a lane assist option which is very helpful. I like features like the backup camera beeping when a person or other car is behind you or driving by you, the motion sensors on the mirror that notifies you someone is in your blind spot.

2019 Camry xse is amazing.
I love my Camry. It looks nice on the outside and rides great. The inside has black leather seats which can be heated in summer. The trunk is large. I dislike the automatic start feature on the key fob. You have to push the lock button three times a certain way and sometimes takes forever to start. I also dislike the wireless phone charger. My phone constantly moves around while driving and it never charges this way.
accountCircle Shelby S
Practical yet luxurious and sporty.
This car is the perfect balance between practical and luxury. The look is fairly sporty. Upgrades for the sunroof and leather interior were well worth the price. The beep for the lane assist is a good safety feature and I really enjoy the adaptive cruise control for almost any drive.

Who writes these reviews?
I’m not sure who writes these reviews but they are obviously people that are not in tune with cars or spend a large amount of time in them. I am in outside sales so I am in the car almost all day long. I’ve been doing this for 30 years , I’ve owned a 2008, 2011, and 2014 Camry SE. That being said this 2019 Camry XSE is without a doubt the most gutless, worst driving Camry I have ever owned. The single problem with this car is its lack of power and terrible… Atrocious shifting software.changing lanes quickly on the freeway is borderline dangerous in this car. It has approximately a second and a half delay from when you hit the gas pedal. You can floor it and the car does absolutely nothing. Around town the car is never in the correct gear, sport mode helps a little bit but when you roll around a average corner around 15 miles an hour or so the car is in a much higher gear to give the car any power. You start slowly pushing the Excelerator and nothing happens. I’ve had to adapt to using 3/4 of the Excelerator when I go around a average turn to make the car not bog down. I’ve spoke to a high level tech at Toyota and off the record he had told me quite a few people have issues with this. Because is Toyota is trying to save the catalytic converter by keeping the car at the lowest possible RPMs. The problem is it wants to stay at 1000 to 1500 rpm’s where the car has absolutely no torque. It’s actually it’s actually a shame because other than that the car is very nice. But take it from someone who drives one all day long, if a very gutless car bothers you definitely do not buy this car!!I absolutely hate mine. It’s so irritating that at the end of the day I’m almost in a bad mood just from driving it.so yeah, not sure who is writing these reviews that is happy with the shifting and power of this car. The other thing is considering I’ve owned three other Camrys this one seems quite a bit heavier. That probably related to the lack of power. Toyota is definitely trying to save weight.when the car was brand new somehow it got a tiny dent in the hood. I had a dent removal guy come out and he was amazed that the hood on this car was made out of aluminum.his comment was Toyota must be trying to save some serious weight because the cost of this aluminum hood is over double the cost of a steel hood.I also noticed that the doors are considerably heavier than the other Camry’s I have owned. I’ve checked the weight on this car against the 2014 that I have owned and their site says it is close to the same. Considering this car has 30 more horsepower than the 2014, and the way that it feels and drives I highly doubt that is accurate.

The new sleeper
Why is this so highly rated? It redefines 'sleeper'. It practically falls asleep at every stop or release of the throttle. I've been calculating my right foot to hit the peddle one full second prior to when I actually want to move, which isn't always an option. This is not acceptable by today's standards. People need to start admitting that the choices they make aren't always the best. This acceration issue is widespread and the biggest concern I have with my new car, but that doesn't mean there aren't other important issues. Windshield barely defrosts during a mild winter. Sometimes I have to pull over and wait for it to re-thaw before I can continue to drive....just for it to refreeze. I'm not even talking single digit temps. Entune...enough said if you already have dealt with it. It would have been nice if the requirements needed to use some functions before purchase were more clear. Big 8 inch screen...but still staring at Google maps on my phone. Waste of money. Noisy engine, road noise, I'm also guessing lack of insulation because of the noise and because of how cold the cabin is in the winter. No wonder it has heated seats. II dislike this car from the moment I hit the start button till i park the thing for the night. Looks good parked, but that's it. I pretty much I stopped driving it. I drive my work truck to get groceries now until I trade this in....soon.

Car brakes on it's own, very very sluggish engine
I bought a 2019 Camry new a month ago and the car has applied the brakes hard 3 times with no other vehicles or obstructions around. You absolutely can not pull out in traffic because the car has horrible lag, it almost stalls at initial acceleration. Worst transmission ever. Constantly feels like its shifting and can't determine which gear it needs. I am EXTREMELY dissatisfied and disappointed with this year's model. This is the 4th Camry we've owned, and by far the worst. We rarely drive it, and feel stuck with it. I drive my 07 Camry instead. The new one sits in the driveway with less than 2500 miles on it.

Very poor excuse for a Camry
We have had over 20 Camrys . The 2019 is the worst. At 500 miles the windows were losing rubber and sticking . As other reviewers say it’s very sluggish going up hills . At 10,000 miles we got ride of it and for the first time in 30 years we have a different brand of car. The dealership was horrible about the repairs . Lost a 30 year customer .

Dead Transmission after 200 miles
Bought the car new. After only about 200 miles, the transmission died, and was replaced under warranty. After another 5000 miles the replacement trans is starting to shift hard. Brakes are already needing replacement. Safety systems are unreliable, often shutting off for no reason, and the infotainment system is almost useless and featureless. After owning for only a few months, already regretting it. Should have bought a Honda or Chev for the same price,or slightly more. Basically, there is very little value for money, extremely disappointed. Guess Toyota quality is slipping hard.

Safety Feature: PRO AND CON
The vehicle drives smoothly and is very affordable. It also is very spacious to be a car. The vehicle comes with A LOT of safety features this is a pro and a con. It is safe car but with such large quantity of features it's hard to just focus on the drive between all the frequent alerts.

I traded my Explorer for a 2019 Camry Xse with 35k miles. I’ve always heard how reliable they were, and that’s what I needed.. Long lasting & reliabe. Since the day after I took it home it’s been nothing but a problem. It’s extremely uncomfortable, the brakes squeal in reverse, I’ve already had to replace a headlight. Something seems to be wrong with the computing system, the interior lights will not come on when I open the, the automatic headlights don’t work causing me to have to replace the battery, the transmission either lags or just jumps into another gear. Black Toyota Camry 2019 new.
So far I am not a very big fan of the vehicle. I love the color and how good it is on gas. However, the turbo in the gas pedal is very confusing. It makes me feel like I cannot drive. Overall the car is good, but it has the little things that need to be improved.

What Do Critics Say About the Toyota Camry?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Toyota Camry is a competent and well-rounded sedan with good owner satisfaction scores as it ages.
  • Edmunds rates the Camry at 3.6/5, praising the efficient engine choices, but doesn’t like the excessive road noise.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the 2019 Camry a 3.9/5, enjoying the standard safety features, but owners don’t like the lack of all-wheel drive for the snow.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Toyota Camry Have?

Common problems found on the 2019 Toyota Camry include the transmission shuddering while accelerating, the A/C blower motor making noise, as well as damaged exterior plastic trim. Overall, these problems are similar to other sedans from 2019, with lower repair bills as they age.

The transmission shuddering while accelerating from a stop is the most widespread complaint on the 2019 Toyota Camry. There is a software update for the transmission which improves the reliability of it. Most dealerships will install the software update for free as part of technical service bulletin T-SB-0152-19.

The A/C blower motor making noise also shows up on some Camry models in the first 5,000 miles. The bearings in the blower motor get damaged, leading to excessive noise. Replacing the blower motor costs around $700 if it’s out of warranty.

Damaged exterior plastic trim is another complaint from owners at around 10,000 miles. In sunny and hot climates, the plastic trim has been reported to melt while in direct sunlight. Changing out the plastic trim costs around $350 if it gets damaged, depending on local labor rates.

There are six recalls on the 2019 Toyota Camry, which is more than some other midsize sedans. The most serious recalls are for the fuel pump, which may fail. Toyota will replace the fuel pump on affected models for free. Most of the other recalls cover load carrying labels, and software issues which are not a serious mechanical concern.

How Long Will the 2019 Toyota Camry Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Toyota Camry can last around 300,000 miles, which is around 50,000 more than the popular Honda Accord. Regular annual maintenance costs are lower than other midsize sedans, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $407 per year.

As a used 2019 Toyota Camry reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the A/C expansion valve for $500, heater hose costing $300, as well as the brake pads which cost around $275.

Optional upgrades include a head-up display, surround-view parking cameras, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic emergency braking.

Is the 2019 Toyota Camry a Good Value?

Yes, the 2019 Toyota Camry is a good value since it lasts longer than many other midsize sedans on the market. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $20,650 to $27,550, making it more expensive than a Nissan Altima or Ford Fusion. When new, the price range was $24,095 to $34,850. Depreciation is similar to other sedans, losing about 7% of its current value per year.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The eighth generation of the Toyota Camry was introduced in 2018.

2015: Improved handling from earlier years, exterior styling changes, as well as some new interior materials.

2016: New SE model with darker taillights and a unique gauge cluster.

2017: Wireless charging pad added to the top-level models.

2018: Fully redesigned for the eighth generation with new technology, engines, and a longer wheelbase.

2019: Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa added to the stereo system.

2020: New TRD Sport model added to the lineup, Android Auto available.

2021: More driver safety features, L model discontinued, small exterior styling changes, and a new 9-inch touchscreen available.

How Does the Toyota Camry Compare to the Competition?

The 2019 Toyota Camry is one of the best midsize sedans on the market since they offer outstanding reliability paired with a comfortable cabin for the price.

The Honda Accord is another midsize sedan which costs around $1,500 more. Where the Honda Accord stands out is with a sportier driving experience, while the Toyota Camry has a smoother suspension. We recommend the Toyota Camry since it lasts longer, although both are excellent sedans worth taking a look at if you’re in the market.

The Toyota Corolla is a smaller sedan from Toyota, which is about $3,000 cheaper. Steering is more responsive in the Toyota Corolla, while the Toyota Camry has more room with a higher-quality interior. We recommend the Toyota Camry since it’s a more practical choice for the money.

Really comfortable car. The drive-ability and smoothness of the ride makes it very enjoyable. Gas mileage per gallon can reach 37-38 miles on highways, and above 30 miles per gallon in the city. The look of the car is a lot more sporty than it used to be with the Camry line, and it gives it a really elegant edge.

You'll never go wrong for Toyota Camry 2019 se.
Toyota Camry 2019 sports edition is a great car specially when you like traveling. This car also got an automatic warning alarm if your car is swerving or getting out of the line. You can also activate the automatic driving where your car will automatically go in the middle of the road whenever it is swerving or going on the other side. But the only disadvantage of having that activated is for emergency situation, if it's activated and you suddenly really need to go left/right, your car will not allow you. But all in all it is a great car. Look wise it is very modern and very fashionable. And it drives smoothly.

The paint job is pretty interesting. It has a very sparkly gloss material.
It is a very nice looking car. During the winter, we have seat warmers built in on the passenger and drivers seat. It is very comfortable. I’d say comfy enough to stay riding in it for hours on end for a road trip. It is pretty spacious as well. It is also of a very reliable build. It is always fine when I take it for a slight tune up.

The cars capabilities to out last in performance is beyond all I ever experienced.
My car is amazing. Goes from 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds and the comfort level exceeds its highest mentions standards. This Toyota is a luxury/sports car in one. Four door passenger air bag accessible, with a factory stereo system that will blow your mind. This car is definitely my number 1 pick for performance and comfort that fits my needs and wants perfectly.

The hand alert whenever you take your hand off the wheel.
It drives great. No problems gas mileage is excellent. Safety in the car is amazing very safe and big and a lot of room for a sedan. The lane protection is my favorite if you cross over the line it brings the wheel back in the center of the line for safety control. Also if you get to close it breaks for you.

My bright lights actually have a feature on them which are considered automatic.
Only thing is the Toyota company has a lot of recalls so be sure to stay updated on all of those. Rather than that my car does really well on gas and is wonderful overall. Only other complaint I have is just the tires, anytime there is a weather change my light comes on because it is so sensitive to any change in the tires pressure.

Toyota Camry 2019 makes a good appearance and handles well with driver assists.
Toyota autos have been part of our lives for over 15 years and have provided acceptable service during that time. They are easy to manage, have assistance devices such as power steering, cruise control which aids greatly on even short trips on major highways, not so much on local roads where hazards come more from one direction. The newer models are lower to the ground and this makes for more difficult entry for taller drivers such as I am. It is easy to fuel, clean, very drivable, and trips using GPS are very useful, especially in crowded conditions.

Apple car play is great! Very helpful for long rides.
No issues very reliable. Great service plan and very fuel efficient. I drive over 90 miles a day and the car is comfortable and affordable for that range. The value has held well and all the mechanics I know tell me how reliable the brand and model is.

2019 Toyota Camry, the car of a lifetime!
I love my Camry! She runs beautifully and even with a long commute to work she only needs filled up every week and a half. The emergency feature save lives, with the lane departure and safety braking when to close and going too fast up to another vehicle. The loud dings certainly get your attention and when other cars are stopping quickly the feature really comes in handy. The leather seats and large trunk are bonuses to this beautiful car. Certainly going to keep this car in my life for a long time! Go Toyota!

2019 Camry is a must buy. If you are looking for a roomy luxury car this is it.
The 2019 Toyota Camry se is a fun and roomy car. It is very spacious. I previously had a Toyota corolla and the Camry is such an upgrade. The leather seats are super comfortable and easy to clean. I love the easy to use touch screen radio. It also has Bluetooth and rear view cameras. The trunk space is really great. You can fit a car seat in there and still have enough room for other stuff. My favorite feature is the lane assist option.

Great ride and feeling because of the suspension. It turns terrifically.
It is a very reliable vehicle with great mileage per gallon of gas and no mechanical problems for an auto mechanic. It drives smoothly and great shocks for a less boy ride. The vision is wonderful in the car and there is enough room for my family plus more people.

Drives very smooth. The car is very comfortable, love the leather seats.
So far so good. No issues with my car. This is my 3rd Camry. I have had awesome luck with all 3 so far! It is roomy, comfortable and it rides smooth. Hopefully when my daughter gets her license she will also be driving a Toyota. If you go with a Toyota I do not think you will be disappointed.

Sporty and spacious, and a very smooth eco efficient ride.
The 2019 Toyota Camry se is a fantastic car. It has a very sleek and sporty look on the outside with a very spacious cabin. The trunk storage space is also amazing and the back seats fold down as well. It has a back up camera and lane assist, which is helpful when trying to take long trips. The leather fabric cross interior is also fantastic, cleaning capability of leather but with comfort of fabrics in the middle for the hot days. I highly recommend the Toyota Camry se.

Affordable and stylish galactic aqua Camry le.
I have had no problems with my Camry. It is stylish, comfortable and very affordable. Avg mph is 36 for my usage. I am sold in the Camry. If I were to purchase another new Camry, I would probably splurge on the XLE trim and the moonroof. I am not a fan of the steering assist feature.

I love my Toyota Camry because.,,
I like my 2019 Camry. The gas mileage is great on the highway. The ride is very smooth. The dash has all the modern features that I am able to use at my fingertips. It is a very comfortable car and it is very roomy for a family of five. The trunk space is ample for one car load of groceries. There have been no problems with this car. The car is very reliable. My family members all own trucks/cars made by Toyota.

It is great and comfy and very reliable.
It is really good and smooth, love the engine. Everyone loves the car and smoothness of it all. People love the comfy leather seats, and the great ventilation. There is great space for about six people. Me and my whole family can fit in and ride smoothly.

Smooth, comfortable, and reliable mid size sedan.
No problems with this vehicle so far. Very smooth ride and somewhat powerful considering the trim level. Spacious enough to comfortably fit two car seats in the backseat. Good amount of trunk space as well. Bluetooth stereo connects to my phone automatically so I have the convenience of leaving my phone alone while I drive.

Amazing vehicle at a great price!
Great appearance — stylish and sports like vehicle. An affordable and reliable vehicle. I personally have the white one and I love it! It is true white (not pearl, not off-white) in color, which makes it look extremely clean. It drives very smooth. It is very spacious, both inside the vehicle and trunk area.

This car has a design error that causes excessive interior wind noise at highway speeds.

#1 car brand in the world.
The reason for the Camry love, especially this generation is the sleek look. It's an affordable car while giving you that sporty look and feel. Not only are Toyota handling great and smooth driving around, maintaining the car is not only super easy but very affordable. No price on the car is over the top or extraorbitant. Honesty the greatest car brand around in the USA at this point.

The nicest feature of my 2019 Toyota Camry is the dashboard.
My 2019 Camry was purchased in October of 2018 so I have owned it for 3 years. I love the color, performance, special features such as back up cameras, built in Wi-Fi, voice commands, leather seats and the seat warming feature. The interior is fantastic and the wheels look very fancy.

What it takes to drive a Toyota Camry.
My car is cute, small and compact. It drives smooth. The color is sleek. It has big interior space. The touch screen navigator is easy to use. The trunk space is deep. All in all, this car is pretty luxurious for its price. The seats are comfortable. The car has Bluetooth navigation system.

It has GPS and backup cameras. It has sensors that help me stay in my lane. It also has a great radio with jbl speakers.

The lane departure system and anti collision system is a nice feature.
We switched to Toyota because we had bad experiences with our fords breaking down in the past. We were tired of spending so much money on our Taurus for repairs. Our new Toyota has not disappointed us. The new safety features like lane departure warnings really helped sell us on it.

No problems, new, love it, rides smoothly, very pretty and has great details that come with. So happy I bought this car, never thought I could move my car more. It's great for road trips or even small car rides, I totally recommend this car. If you were thinking about buying it I say go for it.

Pros and cons of my Toyota Camry.
It is very comfortable. The seats do not have memory adjustments, you have to adjust them every time there is a different driver. Drives nice. I am getting used to the cruise control where it automatically drops your speed when there is a car in front of you. There is jerking in the car when that happens and when it picks back up again.

NASCAR drives the Camry for a reason!
I was hesitant to buy a Camry as it seems like a basic, granny grocery getter sedan. However, got one for rental after a car accident and fell in love. Surprisingly has lots of power under the hood. Heavy, but maneuverable which really makes you feel on control- yet still maintains 35+ mpg. Beautiful interior, and lots of space. My only dislike is Entune app for navigation is very basic, does not have all the bells and whistles of google maps, etc.

2019 Toyota Camry se review.
My Camry gets great gas mileage, it rides very well, the interior is very nice, and I love the features it has on the dash and the radio with apple CarPlay. The body style is much better than previous styles and it looks sportier. Overall I think the thing I like the most is the gas mileage. I average about 40 mpg.

Skin oils on the console make it yucky.
The get up and go really is not there. It has nice leather interior and a normal sized steering wheel. Make sure to regularly clean the top of the console because otherwise your skin oils are noticeable. I do not recommend the color white either because something on the top coat causes it to stain.

There are multiple safety features that are quite useful including motion sensors at the front and back of the car and also a lane departure assist. My model of the 2019 Toyota Camry se includes apple CarPlay. This car is very reliable, comfortable and to top it off, has an amazing ac system.

2019 Toyota Camry - best purchase made!
My car has been overall a great purchase. It drives very smoothly and quiet which I love and has apple CarPlay which is nice for iPhone users because I am able to set up navigation with it. Even if you are not an iPhone user the car has Bluetooth installed to play music and make phone calls. I definitely save a lot on gas and normally fill up the car once a week - every other week since I do not use the car for long distances, however for a road trip it is definitely reliable (it even has an sos button in case of emergencies). The car is both compact and comfortable and is great for the winter time (no seat heaters are included but it is fine because the seat material does not get too cold). Lastly, the trunk space is pretty big - I have been able to fit multiple large luggages for trips and beach chairs without any issues. The only cons I would give the car is not having seat settings and being a bit low but otherwise it is an amazing car and highly recommend!
