The 2018 Ram 1500'S3.0 liter 6-cylinder diesel engine requireS-10.6 US quarts of 5W-40 with a filter. The 3.6 l 6-cylinder useS5.9 US quarts of 5W-20 and the 5.7 l 8-cylinder is equipped with 7 US quarts of the same lubricant. Oil and filter changes should be scheduled every 7,500-10,000 miles or 12 months if filling with fully synthetic lubricants, or every 3,000-5,000 miles or 6 months, if using conventional oil. The advantages of using synthetic vs conventional products include better lubrication among moving parts, a longer interval between service appointments and enhanced effectiveness under adverse weather conditions. A motor oil with a thinner viscosity moves more easily in colder temperatures, coating engine components efficiently and providing better protection against friction and corrosion.

The 2018 Ram 1500 relies on 100% synthetic oil. The 3.0L V6 engine uses SAE 5W-40 with an oil capacity of 10 quarts. The 3.6L V6 prefers SAE 5W-20 and holds 5.9 quart. The powerful 5.7L V8 engine also runs on SAE 5W-20 and can handle 7 quarts of oil.

Depending on your type of oil(synthetic/conventional) and or if you do short trips to work or in town and no highway driving your truck will burn oil.
