In 2006 and later model year Hyundai Sonata vehicles, timing chains are exclusively used across both the 4Cylinder and V6 engines. As such, the 2008 Hyundai Sonata comes with a timing chain. Depending on Your perspective, this can be either a good or a bad thing; however, most automotive experts agree that chains are superior. The main reason for this is because Your timing chain will likely never need to be replaced -- they're estimated to be good for between 250,000 and 300,000 miles. There's a good chance that Your Sonata will fail before its timing chain does. Belts, however, need to be replaced every 60,000 to 100,000 miles. On the other hand, if Yours DOES become stretched or otherwise fail, You'll be looking at a much pricier repair -- You'll be looking at upwards of $3,000 to have it replaced.

The 2008 Hyundai Sonata uses a timing chain for both the 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines. Normally, these parts are more durable than a timing belt and require less maintenance.

Now I'm confused because my 2008 Hyundai sonata has a belt. Why and how can that be?
