As the owner of a 2013 Ford Explorer, You may be concerned about rumors related to Your vehicle having a recall for a faulty water pump. Unfortunately, it is true. After multiple reports of failing pumps, Ford issued a recall for all 2013 Explorer models. This was due to consumers experiencing overheating of the engine, which disabled their vehicles, and in some cases, damaged the engines. Ford will fix the issue by replacing the water pump free of charge. If for any reason You need to replace it on Your own in the future, You can expect to pay between $183 and $358 for a new part alone. Labor can cost an additional $80 to $327.

Our 2013 Ford Explorer water pump just started leaking. Received quote of $3,100+ from my mechanic to fix it. Very high labor costs due to requirement to drop the whole engine. How do I get Ford to fix it?

2013 ford explorers with duratec v6 engines may have faulty water pumps that cause the engine to overheat, and ford will fix it for you.

There is no recall but here is what we can do. Call the National Highway Safety Administration at 888-327-4236 and complain. If enough of us let them know that this water pump problem is not safe because it could leave us stranded in the middle of the street, they may start a recall. Also call to join a class action law suit that is already in progress with Kessler, Topaz, Meltzer, and Check LLP at (484)270-1496 ask for Ms. Huggins who is very helpful. I have done both of these things because I have a failed water pump in my 2013 Ford Explorer XLT and the mechanic's estimate is $3900 to fix. I can't even drive the car because coolant goes straight to the ground. We are stronger in numbers. Anyone with this problem needs to call these numbers.Ford may get over one a few of us but they can't get over on all of us. Let's go. Feel free to contact me at vparks.333@gmail.com

Call Ford 1800-392-3673 explain the issue and we will see. They gave me a case number and are calling the dealership directly to see what they can do. We will see crossing my fingers.

Is there any follow up on this issue? I am just starting to see evidence of coolant leaking from the port under the car. Videos online point to the internal water pump. Any help with Ford?

Water pump just went on my 2013 explorer. Dealership closest to me said that changing the water pump and timing change the same time would make the most sense because of how much work is involved in getting to both of them. They quoted me $4500-$4800. I’m not getting the work done through them… I found another dealer to do the work and additional work the car will need forI’m not getting the work done through them… I found another dealer to do the work and additional brake work the car will need for inspection …… cost from the 2nd shop well below what the first dealership quoted me.

There's no answer. This entire vehicle is a nightmare. I've spent over $3k in repairs that should have never been a problem at the milage that was on it. Now I have a water pump that is leaking, and I was quoted$2700 for repair.

No recall on water pump yet. Just had water pump go out. Estimated $1500 for repairs. Added my name to lawsuit filed for bad water pumps on 2013 ford explorer xlt. Have to get timing chain replaced when you do water pump. It’s an internal water pump. Part is $80, kit is $300 or so. Labor is over $1100. Stupidest design I’ve ever seen.

I am part way through purchasing a 2013 Ford Explorer Limited. We did all the paperwork, including trade in of my old vehicle, DMV, insurance change, etc. Then they sais they needed a few days to fix a problem they could not release the vehicle with. When asked to describe it, they only would say it is related to a cooling leak and they are waiting for a part. I did some research and found this and other blogs. Now I am driving my own vehicle which I no longer own or have insurance on, getting more concerned, waiting. I am in CA, which does not have a cooling off period for such purchases, but this is not right. Any suggestions for what I should do legally? Thanks all. -Frank

I filed a complaint with the National Highway Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236 and I called Ford (absolutely no help at all whatsoever). I'm getting quotes for repair anywhere from $1900 - $2500 for my 2013 Ford Explorer XLT.

Having same issues with my water pump I own a 2013 Ford Edge and I am being told it's going to cost thousands of dollars to repair it because of the labor due to location of the water pump. I'm so stressed it's the only car I have and Christmas is just around the corner so I can't just go get a new car. Ford dealership in my town tried to deny even being aware of the issue. I called the lawyer hopefully we can be reimbursed

Just got my 2013 Ford Explorer water pump replaced due to coolant leak. Got it done at a Ford dealership total price was $2656 SMH. They didn’t mention anything about it being a recall. Good luckGood news is that it’s fixed now and my car is like new again and I plan on driving it for another 2 years then hand it off to my daughter. Been having it for 11 years and this has been my first major issue. (Thank God)good luck to you all who is having the same issue
