The 2013 Ford Explorer catalytic converter problems are dark exhauSTSmoke or slugging engine performance. Your air filter needs to be changed every 15,000 to 30,000 miles or so. The coolant needs to be changed every 60,000 miles. The spark plugs need to be replaced every 100,000 miles unless it's a copper one. A cooper spark plug needs to be replaced every 30,000 miles. You will come across many issues with an engine. You can have oil leaks and those need to be repaired quickly. A gasket may be loose and that needs to be tightened up quickly. A spark plug may pop off, causing engine issues. There could be excessive oil use, requiring the oil to be changed sooner than expected. A really serious problem is the engine overheating. This may lead to fires and the car exploding.

Not an answer, but my Ford 2013 Explorer has now gone thru THREE cat converters in less that a year! The one Ford replaced in April 2023 just died and they are replacing it right now for free. Will the one I replaced 3 months ago die too??? I have my Explorer in for maintenance routinely, so that's not the problem! I wonder what they do with the "old" converter?? Sell it for the stuff inside???

There should be a recall or something for the catalytic converter on the 2013 For Explorer. Maybe mine is just a POS. I had it replaced, gaskets, all kinds of different things looked at, changed and replaced and my check engine light still comes on and codes to the catalytic converter.

There are no known recalls or warranty issues for the 2013 ford explorer catalytic converter, but if it fails it can trigger a check engine light, and the exhaust system would have to be repaired by a ford service facility.
