The 2013 Subaru Impreza 2.0L comes with a timing chain on the engine. This is a better option than a timing belt because it will not have to be replaced. Usually a timing belt will need to be replaced every 60,000 to 100,000 miles and a chain should be able to last over 300,000 miles without needing to be replaced. This is better for Your engine as well because if a timing belt were to break it could cause catastrophic damage to the engine. Even though You do not have a timing belt You should still inspect the chain at least once a year. You will want to make sure that it is not loose, and that it is free from any debris.

Timing chain is good up to 250k, timing belt is better, less complex and quieter
