Every time a manufacturer adds more convenience features, they're really adding more potential vectors for failure -- which are more potential vectors for draining Your wallet. Unfortunately, the power running boards of the 2016 Ford F-150 are no different. While they don't fail at a much greater rate than other vehicles similarly equipped, they'll fail more often than a truck WITHOUT power running boards ;) The main issue drivers report is binding, which can luckily be fixed with a bit of silicone-based spray lubricant. However, it's also possible that the motor can fail, usually by burning up -- a replacement will cost You north of $300. Before You panic, it's also possible that the wiring has been damaged; it's still an inconvenient fix, but it'll represent a coSTSavings over what You'd find in a motor.
