The 2016 Kia Sorento comes standard with a timing chain on the engine instead of a belt. This is better because a timing chain should not ever need to be replaced. Usually the most expensive piece of regular maintenance that You will have to do is replacing the timing belt every 60,000 to 100,000 miles. With a timing chain You should be able to go over 300,000 miles without having to replace it. You should still inspect Your timing chain at least once a year to make sure that it is not loose and that it is free from any debris that could damage Your timing gear. If it were to come loose it could cause permanent damage to Your engine's timing system.

The 2016 Kia Sorento uses a timing chain instead of a timing belt. Though chains are extremely durable, they can stretch and lose integrity. If you hear a ticking sound in your engine, its sign your timing chain might not be working properly.
