Since the 2019 model year, the US federal government has required all new vehicles to come standard with backup cameras. However, they were a little more rare going back. The good news is that the 2017 Chevrolet Impala was a bit ahead of its time; it offered a rear facing backup camera on all trim levels, from the base to the top of the line Premier. This wasn't the case just a single model year prior, though. In 2016, the Impala only offered a backup camera as optional equipment, or standard on the upper lever 1LT and 2LT. If You ask me, it's a good idea that all new cars now include them. They're precious safety equipment that can help avoid one of the most common types of avoidable accidents.

Not correct, like Nick B said in his answer. Manufacturer “OFFERED” backup camera on ALL TRIM LEVELS, in 2016 they did not “OFFER” the BUC in ALL TRIM LEVELS. I have a 2017 LT with lots of goodies, but NO BUC. :( it wasn’t until 2019 that ALL MANUFACTURERS, on all MAKES AND MODELS, “REQUIRED” a BUC to be “STANDARD” safety “REQUIREMENT”. Lots of quotations, I apologize. But it seems that not everyone understands the Lingo of Offered, Opptional (same thing) is much different than “standard”, “Required” and “Mandatory” safety equipment. Can anyone tell me if my 2017 can download software updates via Wifi connection? Or can that only be done via the USB data connection, and or equipped OBD2 scanners. Thnkx

No my 2017 LS Chevy Impala did not come with a backup camera Paul S. (the impala comes with a back up camera through all trim levels. The manufacturers really did understand what a good feature it is.)

One of the most dangerous and difficult things to do in a vehicle is backing up. Many people feel uncomfortable with this task. Back up cameras have greatly reduced the difficulty of this maneuver and increased customer comfort. The Impala comes with a back up camera through all trim levels. The manufacturers really did understand what a good feature it is.
