GMC began adding Apple CarPlay functionality to the Acadia in the 2017 model year, and continues through the present. Therefore, Your 2017 is capable of CarPlay functionality, if so equipped; not all head units on the 2017 models are loaded with the software, though the majority seem to be. This is good news if You're already entrenched in the Apple ecosystem, and You're looking to add more safety features to Your use list. That's right, Apple doesn't market CarPlay as an infotainment feature; to them, it's all about safety. They claim that the user-friendly interface has the ability to keep drivers' eyes off their phones and on the roads, thus leading to a reduction in accidents caused by lack of attention.

My 2017 does not have Apple CarPlay. I bought it used and hoped it had CarPlay, but it did not. It seems that some 2017's have it and some do not. Also, mine is not a Denali... Perhaps that's why I don't have it? If anyone reading this knows the answer, I'd love to find out what I can do to get CarPlay. Would it involve a special head unit? I'd prefer to stay in the GMC family as I like the look of my current unit. I just wish it had CarPlay. I'd be willing to pay a little to get it.

Apple CarPlay is very useful if you have a compatible iPhone as it allows the driver to use voice commands to access the entire phone and all features. The Acadia comes from the factory with Apple CarPlay included. There are also other options like Bluetooth to connect incompatible phones.
