When the alarm system is not working in Your 2006 Chevy Colorado the first thing that You should do is try to reset the alarm. This is a pretty simple process and it can usually clear up most of the problems in the vehicle in just a few minutes. To reset it all You will need to do is put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position. Leave it in this position without the engine running until the security light turns off. After that turn the key to the off position and then back to the on position fast. Then You should be able to start it and turn over the engine with no problems.

You must leave the key in the ignition in the "off" spot to reset the 2006 Chevy colorado protection device, and wait 10 minutes. Verify that the safety light is blinking. The security light will stop blinking after 10 minutes, and either turn off or remain continuously on.

Its probable become a problem because of wear on the key. We have two keys and one is worn a lot more than the other and it commonly trips the anti-theft protection. It also could be related to the tumblers in the mechanism sticking. If you jiggle the key every time you put it in, you can reduce the chances of it tripping.
