Replacing the battery in the 2000 Ford Escape is not easy task. The batteries tucked up underneath the windshield wiper cowling. Before You begin, disconnect the negative battery cable from the firewall using a 13mm socket and ratchet. Wrap the end of the cable with tape or rag to keep it from touching any metal while working on the battery. Next remove the battery cover, air cleaner cover, air filter and the lower airboxAssembly. Remove the wire loom grommets and move the wiring out of the way. Using a 10-millimeter socket on the end of a ratchet, loosen the positive battery cable and remove it. Bring down the front of the battery box, and remove the battery hold down bracket with the 10-millimeter socket. Pull the battery forward, disconnect the negative battery terminal and pull the battery out. Just reverse the process to install the new battery.
