There are a few things You can do to reset the anti-theft system on the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt. Perhaps the simplest is to disconnect the negative battery terminal, let it sit for 15 to 30 minutes, and then reconnect. However, some anti-theft faults are not reset with a power down, so You may have to move on to the more involved method. To reliably reset Your anti-theft system, You'll need to first enter the vehicle. Turn the key to the starting position, then let it spring back to the "ON" position. Leave this on for twelve to fifteen minutes, or until the Passlock light goes out. Then, You'll need to turn the key off, wait for five seconds, and then repeat the entire process three to five times. This is guidance directly from General Motors customer service.

You can easily reset the anti-theft system by putting the engine into the on position and then pressing down on the accelerator three times in succession.

2007 Chevy Cobalt 2.2 L. I answered a post earlier and put the wrong year via talk and text. One morning I went for coffee came back to the house then within that half hour came out to fire up the car and got nothing but a click and my anti theft system light was on. After research I went through the process of trying to reprogram my key going over it two times spending about an hour and a few minutes to just still have the same issue. I read somewhere about people having their Anti-Theft system light blinking which mine was not it was solid. Anyway I chose to disconnect the battery during that time I pop the hood open my fuse box check my fuses which all were fine so I unscrewed my battery post and cleaned up any corrosion on both sides of my eyelets both positive and negative along with the bottom of the battery post. Put everything back together tightened up hooked up the battery and the car fired up immediately to my surprise. I'm not sure why my Anti-Theft system was tripped but essentially cleaning up the battery post did it for me unless it was unhooking the battery for a period of time which may have reset my ECU. Hopefully that helps anyone since this vehicle seems to be quite popular for this problem.
