There are two different ways to reset the oil life in Your 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. The first is perhaps the simplest; if You have an OBD-II scan tool with oil life functionality, You should be able to connect it to Your Equinox's port and perform a reset through the vehicle's software interface. If You want to do it natively, or if You don't have access to a scan tool, You'll be able to reset it by turning the ignition to ON (with the engine off), pressing the accelerator to the floor three times within five seconds, and then turning the ignition OFF. If You see the oil light flash after You've pressed the accelerator, You know the reset succeeded. This procedure is the same on most, if not all, General Motors vehicles.

Turn the ignition on but don't start the engine. Press the accelerator to the floor 3 times in 5 seconds. The oil light will flash and reset.
