Although the anti-theft system in the 2011 Ford Escape is designed to prevent the vehicle from being stolen, there are times it may work against You. If something has triggered it, or it has glitched, You will need to reset the system, Always make sure the battery is charged because You won't be able to start the vehicle once You start. Begin by trying to start the vehicle. When it fails to start, allow the key to go back one position to ON. The radio and lights in the instrument cluster should all be working. Leave the key in this ON position for a MINImum of 10 minutes. If the light has gone off, turn the ignition off and then start the engine to see if it works. If the engine starts, the system has been reset. Otherwise, You can start over. It could take up to three tries. In some cases, You may also be able to reset it, if You disconnect the positive battery cable. Turn the key to ON, and reconnect the cable. Try turning the key off and then start the vehicle test it.

On the 2011 ford escape remove positive cable from battery, place key in car and turn to the on position, then replace positive cable, turn key off then back on and the anti theft should be reset.
