From time to time, You'll find that the anti-theft system on Your 2001 Ford Mustang is giving You trouble. Luckily, there's a relatively simple reset procedure which is in fact the same on all fourth generation Mustangs (1994-2004). First, You'll need to enter the driver's side of Your vehicle. Put Your key into the ignition, and lower Your window. Leave the key in and on for at least ten minutes. You can use this time to start Your novel, use the restroom, grab a snack, or browse other questions on Vehicle History -- Your choice! Once You get back to Your Mustang, You can turn the key off and remove it from the ignition. When You put it back in and attempt to start the vehicle, the anti-theft system will be reset.
