On the 2005 Ford Expedition, You'll find two different catalytic converters -- one on the left side, and one on the right side. This can be quite an expense when it comes to replacement, if needed -- however, a dual-cat setup has been shown to reduce the environmental impact of the vehicle, so some may argue that it's much needed on the '05 Expedition. As with any vehicle, the exhauSTSystem may require maintenance from time to time, and older model year Expedition owners (yes, we're getting to the point where 2005 is "older model year") may be tempted to "straight pipe" one or more of their catalytic converters. This is OBVIOUSLY not recommended, because of the adverse environmental effects. If You live in a state that requires inspection, this will also cause an instant fail. Even though it's an expensive piece to replace, it's always recommended that You keep Your cats in good working order.
