If Your exhaust fumes have a strong sulfur smell, this is a good indication of the catalytic converter needs replaced. Along with that, the reduced engine performance, other symptoms of a bad converter is dark smoke coming out of the tailpipe.

There are 3, one on each side of engine which double as the exhaust manifolds, and 1 more downstream after the y pipe.
