To remove the water pump from the 2013 Ford Explorer follow these steps. Start by finding the timing belt or chain. You are going to need to remove this to get to the water pump. Refer to Your owner's manual on how to do this, or look for directions online. It's not hard, but each vehicle has its own way of doing it. Now You will be able to see the pump. Connected to it is a hose, You will need to remove this. When You do You will have a lot of coolants pour out, so be ready for this. Now You can undo the bolts and pull the old pump out. Once it is out locate all of the connection points for it in the car and clean them of any gunk or filth. Now You can put the new pump in place and bolt it back down. Reattach the hoses, and then put the belt or chain back on. You are now finished, though You may need to add more coolant to the system depending on how much You lost. The cost for a water pump replacement is between $200 and $300. The part is about 150 and the labor can range from $50 to $150 depending on how long it takes to do.

We are paying $2200 and that is after getting a deal from our mechanic.

A Ford Dealer told me that there is about 10 hours of lab involved in replacing a 2013 Ford Explorer water pump. With that amount of labor involved, I would expect a price in the range of $1,000 or more.

There is no recall but here is what we can do. Call the National Highway Safety Administration at 888-327-4236 and complain. If enough of us let them know that this water pump problem is not safe because it could leave us stranded in the middle of the street, they may start a recall. Also call to join a class action law suit that is already in progress with Kessler, Topaz, Meltzer, and Check LLP at (484)270-1496 ask for Ms. Huggins who is very helpful. I have done both of these things because I have a failed water pump in my 2013 Ford Explorer XLT and the mechanic's estimate is $3900 to fix. I can't even drive the car because coolant goes straight to the ground. We are stronger in numbers. Anyone with this problem needs to call these

The total cost of the actual part is about $295.00 And is without the labor factored in. So you are probably looking at about $500 with the labor at really cheap place.
